Robert,

Back when I was tryng to get a (Historical 1st Turn) PBEM game (v1.804) going as Japan, no matter what I or my opponent did we could not get combat reports or combat animations to work from day 1. The only work around we found was to no do a Historical 1st Turn.

Some people claim that "it clears up after a few days" - out of curiosity, how long did you try out before restarting?

Neither, my opponent or I wanted to not have at least the combat report for turn 1. So after about a dozen tries (1st turn only) we switched to a non-historical 1st turn.

i probably would have done the same... the game MIGHT have reset, but who wants to invest a lot of time and effort based on the chance?

My opponent and I have a month of game time invested. [:(][;)]

Are you exchanging the three files i recommended (witp001.pws, witpxxx.pws (save file) and the combatreport.txt)? [&:]

Bob,  Monterey and I are exchanging the witp001.pws and witpxxx.pws files.  (At least from him (Japan) to me)  He does not get a combatreport.txt file generated, and neither do I.

We are now both at exactly the same patch level, 1.806, and both started with exactly the same 1.804.

Edit: I get the full replay, and we managed to get combat animations turned on several turns into the game, but still no combat report. As long as we stay in sync, I can get most of what I need from the replay, but there's nothing to refer back to, and nothing that WitPUtility can import. [:(]

Is this still an issue with 1.806?

Yamato, I have not tried to start a pbem game with historical first turn since upgrading to 1.806.  It's possible that the problem may not happen for newly started games now, but I don't know.  I do know that our game started under 1.804 still has the issue after upgrading to 1.806.

Has anyone out there started a "historical first turn" under 1.806 that wants to report what happened to them??

OK, testing Scenario 15, Historical Start, under 1.806.  I'm going to play both sides locally.

Settings:  combat reports on, combat animations on.

Entered passwords for each side, and ensured that CR's and CA's were still both turned on for both sides.

Ran the historical 12/7/41 turn and immediately noticed there were no combat animations.  After the combat replay, the Japanese orders phase started, and I checked the preferences and options from within the turn.  Both CR and CA were now set to OFF.  [:(]

I manually turned both of them back on from here, ended the Japanese orders and saved the turn.

I loaded the combat replay, and it showed no Combat Animations (as I thought it would be),  and generated no CR.

I then loaded the Allied turn, checked the preferences and options from within the turn, and both were set to ON, as expected from the Japanese player manually turning them back on.  I ended the Allied turn and saved it.

I loaded the Japanese player's turn, and it displayed the Combat Animations and generated a Combat Report.  I verified that both were still ON in the preferences and options and then ended the turn.

Allied player loaded the combat replay, was able to see Combat Animations, and had a Combat Report generated.  Both CA and CR were still set ON in preferences and options.

Summary:  This is exactly the behavior I saw when testing under 1.804.  By playing both sides, I was able to get both CA and CR turned back on, after the "Historical Start Bug" turned them off.  Looks like it's still here under 1.806.  Sadly, when my PBEM Japanese opponent and I tried to get these turned back on, we got the animations to turn on, but neither of us still get Combat Reports generated after many tries.

Just a side note:  I was able to see my first example of the Sync Bug during the turn 2 testing.  I was hitting the Esc key often to speed up the combat replay as Japan.  On turn 2, Japan captured Wake and eliminated the US units there.  The Allied replay showed only an Allied bombardment attack at Wake that day, but loading the actual turn showed Wake as captured.

Ok, Bob.  Get this fixed.  [:'(][;)]

This is the current state of affairs - the reports start back up after 1-2 days (according to most folks) ... sounds like you might need to run resync procedures ("Pompack's Patented Procedure") - and that will get you back into sync.

Bob doesn't fix things - Bob just reports what is broken!! [:'(]

My sync issue was only seen during my "play both sides" testing.  It's not an issue in my pbem game.  I just mentioned it because I had never seen it before.  [;)]

I wish Monterey and I were part of the "(according to most folks)"  [8|]

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whenever the cause of the CA's and CR's being turned off is found, a solution to get our Combat Reports turned back on will be found as well.
