AAR: Defense of the USSR part 3

Post by Vic »

In the north i clearly did not manage to hold the Dvina line and will have to try to establish a defensive line closer to Leningrad.
In the center on the road to Smolensk the germans did not advance much.
In the south the germans took Kiev and crossed the Dniepr.

In the North i am building a line closer to Leningrad.

In the center i organized a counter attack on a german armoured concentration near Orsha. I am committing probably 2/3 of the battle ready tanks of the USSR.

And it was succesfull. Though casualties seem equal, the readiness loss enemy troops incurred will hamper the further german advance towards Moscow.

I was not able to get much reinforcements to the southern fronts, so next turn my factories will deliver the brunt of the production to the Kiev HQ.

In the extreme South i was able to repulse the weak german bridgehead over the dniepr. The fact that the germans had no aircover active probably helped me to use my remaining air force to good effect. Furthermoe you can see on the screenshot i am sending a small soviet force from Sevastopol towards Rumania. Just to be annoying.

German Turn 4

In the North, my troops march largely unopposed through the Baltic states. I establish contact with some Soviet armored units and attack with infantry and planes. I also build an airfield in order to bring my air force up.

In the Center, my attacks are focussed on the medium tanks in Orsha. They are tough and it takes 2 assaults to capture the town. Further North, I isolate Vitebsk and make a deep advance with my armor. I hope to make a serious assault on Smolensk next month.

In the South, I brush aside the Soviet line opposing Kiev and move across the river in force and push towards Kharkov.

Along the Black Sea, the Romanians re-establish a beach head across the Dneiper and cut off the neck of the Crimea. Hope to apply pressure on Sevastopol in the next few turns.

C'mon Vic.  The Huns are running roughshod across the steppe.[;)]  I have faith in you my brother.  Go get 'em!  I'm enjoying this unfolding movie gents.  Keep it up.  Time to whip up the grill for some chili dogs and hamburgers for the Fourth.  I'll check in later.[:)]
