Poker and Wargames
Just wondering.....
wargames being very analytical and numerically intense, and yet anything can happen, who plays on-line for real money?
I do at Ultimatebet, look me up under the same user name.

Yeah I read or saw on tv Texas is trying to get a vote in for live poker within the state. Live poker is ok because taxes can be regulated when you win a big poker tournament. The online thing is very hard to keep up with who owes what in taxes so I'm purty sure that's why it go banned in the US. Hopefully though in the future they can revamp this law. I loved my online poker I was making quite a living just playing online tournaments. lol

RE: Poker and Wargames
I quite enjoy a poker night, but I've never really gotten in to playing online.

Man I did At Party Poker.net I was racking up $100 a week in just a couple of hours playing Hi/Lo Omaha limit tournaments of $5 to $10 entry during the day. All you had to do was play for 3rd or better every tournament and you were in the money. I don't care for NL Texas Holdem though, that's just too much luck to me and too much bluffin. lol Limit poker makes it a bit harder to bluff than ALL IN. I hate ALL IN lol.

Poker is for idiots or highly seasoned and talented professionals (note: you aren't one of these people). I refuse to qualify that statement. I'm sure I will be well loved from this point on.

Well said. I heartily agree. Online poker players are of two types only, predators and their prey, although a surprising number of the latter are incapable of recognising the fact despite the evidence of their credit card statements.
RE: Poker and Wargames
Hehe come and let me prey on you.
Poker really isn't that hard to master, patience is the key to success in many cases. But, a good bluff every now and then and/or aggressive play is also beneficial. This is the master key to success, you gotta know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away know when to run, you never count your money while you're sittin at the table, you can count your money when the dealins done.
You also should never play poker with scared money they call it. Money you are afraid to lose or don't want to lose. You need to go into the game as if that money were already lost or the optimistic way is found money. If you can play with the attitude it is found money you can play aggressively and win some nice hands and money or you can lose it very quickly lol. Luck of course plays a big part in many cases and just about any gambler will tell you on a given day they'd rather be lucky than professional/good. To become a professional one must also be able to play many styles, it's too easy to read you if you fold every hand and then all of a sudden bet the house one hand, it's also easy to read you if you play in every pot and try to raise everyone out, just like a wargame you have to play strategically and tactfully. As the knowing when to hold them, knowing when to fold them rings true. I tell yah though there is nothing more fun and exciting than when you are sitting there with the NUTS and your opponent(s) are raising the doors off the hand and you just sit there and call. llol I'll never forget my very last hand in Vegas before I left was an event like this in which I had four 10's and the guy had Kings full of tens (we were playing holdem) lol he raised till he had nothing in front of him and even said on his last raise "surely you don't have two 10's". haha I walked out of my last pot in Vegas $600 richer.
In tournaments though there are times you just have to take chances, early in a tournament I will sit back and be patient for the quality hands, but, as the tournament nears the middle time frame I begin to get more aggressive and play more pots and raise raise raise lol. The middle of the tournament is where I take my chances, here is where you're goin to gain higher income/profits for your play. Those 10/20 rounds are just kiddie rounds to get rid of most of the idiots that play totally aggressively to what we call lottery poker, they play with anything and hope for a flop that puts them in the lead no skill required just any two cards and lady luck. lol Also, you cannot play tournament style that easily in cash poker, it's a totally different ballgame there because then you are truely restricted by your bankroll and not tournament chips. One all-in hand loss and you could be out 100's to 1000's of dollars. In these online poker tournaments if you play like I do you'll be out only $5 to $10 a tournament. I've come back from having only $60 in chips to win the entire tournament. So, just because you get down don't count yourself out, lady luck and skill still plays a big part in your outcome.
When I lived in Vegas I also played as a shill at $40 a day and my own money sometimes. As a shill if you don't want to go broke in the first hour you have to learn to play patiently, waiting for pairs high A's and Ki's, throwing away what we called fish hands where people with A's 2's unsuited would throw their wad into the pot. You just have to be able to figure the odds on what you have in your hand and what's out there that can beat it. Of course this takes some time of playing and a good mathematical mind and I'm still not anywhere close to being experrt on it by a long shot, but, enough to win these family tournaments I call them online for $5 and $10. If you notice many of the top players even though they look stupid haha have mathematical backgrounds or management. It's not to say you have to have these classifications/skills to always win, but, they do help of course. Even the dumbest of dumb can get lucky on a given Sunday like Moneymaker who also has a mathematical business background btw.
Once you are brave enough to enter some of the big stakes tournaments and win them then you'll become a poker player for life lol. You'll travel the globe and dream about A K beating a pair of A's as Q J 10 flop on the board. lol You'll live out of a suitcase and never see your family (though you will of course send most all that lovely money to your wife haha) you'll have to rely on escourt services for your physical pleasure awwwww lol. Sounds like a terrible life doesn't it?

I play online on Poker Stars as FNG Tim. Some of you know the meaning but many of my opponents are from over the pond and are not familiar with the term. I taught my girl friend to play poker about two years ago. Since then she has won three first place $5.00 tourneys. Anywhere from 700 to 1200 people in these and they paid 20 % to first place. One of them took her about 6 hours or so. She always plays patiently and now plays live no limit holdem tournaments in LA and has made the final table on several occaisions.

I just learned more about internet poker then I will ever need or want to know.
