Tutorial - Lesson IV- Using Weapons

Post by EagleMountainDK »

Hi, I'm not sure if its me thats doing something wrong but isn't Puller expected to engage the first aircraft by itselt? It never happens.... [&:]

I've tried a manual engagement and it seems that no mounts/weapons is ready for firing. I guess that answers my own first question. So how do I get the tutorial working?

I have tried these DB's with the same result:
  • Harpoon 3 ANW Database 2.0 (3730)
  • Harpoon 3 ANW Database 2.0
  • Harpoon 3 Standard Database
  • Players Database 7.4.7 June 16

Not one of the gives a setup like the manual descripes, i.e. weapon engaging and the correct weapon range circles...

* Give it a try with the DB2000-rebuilt tutorials and the DB2000 database: http://www.harpoonhq.com/?page_id=321

* Make sure the range rings for air-search sensors and anti-air weapons are enabled ("preferences" window - F8)

* v3.8 has modified the behavior of AI units (both own and enemy) when engaging hostiles. Until now any hostile unit was engaged with defensive weapons (such as SAMs) automatically regardless of its identity and capability. Now the firing unit takes into account whether the target is a threat to it (the firing unit). IIRC in the tutorial your frigate is pit against an unarmed Tu-95RT which is deemed to pose no immediate threat and thus is not engaged even if you mark it explicitly as hostile. If you take over the weapon allocation manually it will engage properly.
