I don't think there is any tactical detail of this type, but who knows, these guys are pretty hardcore and thorough.;)

There do not appear to be any options for setting those kinds of tactical formations for TF's. At least not in the version of the game that I have.

TFs in same place

Post by mogami »

Hi, If 2 TF's occupied the same hex and an enemy TF entered would they both fight or is that random? The reason I ask as I am interested in conducting a test. Rather then put everything for a mission into 1 TF divided it into several smaller ones for example a 2 BB 4 CA 2CL 6-8 DD TF would instead be 2BB 2DD,
4 CA 3 DD, and 2CL 3DD. Mainly to find out if massing into 1 battle gives better results then having ships of each class engage separtly, with hopefully the last group sinking what the first group damages. Then for more comparison have 2 TF with half the ships of each class each (2x 1BB 2xCA 2xCL 4xDD)
Have I overlooked a posted battle where 2 differant IJN TF's engaged at same time?

Seems we are really getting bored waiting.

Not that it isn't a valid question. But...:)

fuel use

Post by mogami »

Hi, well depending on the results of the test, I might have a new program for him to conserve fuel. If the TF can be broken up and still fight effectivly there might not be a reason to send the whole force back and forth to refuel. (he could top off the ships staying behind and just run a few for gas) I am not familiar with how un-reps are conducted, but it might save some fuel.

Mogami's issue brings up another good point. I suspect we're beginning to push the limits of the command structure modeling. What would be the command linkage (if any) between two such TFs? What would be their degree of autonomy from one another; is one subservient to the other? Would they both attack a target simultaneously, or would discipline be instilled in one of the groups to wait for the other's "table scraps" ?

Further study of how TF 58 operated may shed some light here, but I wonder if such a relationship between units would be possible within UV's command model.
