Cincinnati, Monday August 11. A late-night chartered-flight trip to Cincinnati, check-in at the hotel, a few hours sleep, and then we head to Crosley Field.
Warren Spahn showed his mastery, throwing 97 pitches (73 for strikes) in a 8-1 complete-game victory. He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Warren's record improves to 19-5, with a 2.43 ERA.
The Phillies lose to the Giants 4-3. The Bucs lead by one.
In the AL, the Yankees lead the A's by 2.5.

A quick note on the Pirates' farm system: Woody Main, who was acquired in the Bob Lemon trade, is 2-1 with a 1.77 ERA in AAA. He's showing some tremendous potential for the future. Also, in AA, 20-year-old 1B Joe Adcock is batting .321, with 9 HR and 53 RBI. Looks like he'll be ready to move up in 1948.

Game 2. The lights were switched on at Forbes Field before this one even started. Pitt manager backed himself into a corner for this game, as starter Larry Jansen is the only rested pitcher he has left. The good news is that the Phillies aren't in any better shape.
Philly won this one 3-2. Randy Gumpert got the win, Ray Poat earned a save and Jansen took the loss.
The Bucs have a two day break.
In these two days, the Browns now have a one game lead over the Indians. The Tigers, having won seven straight, are three games back. Other AL teams still in contention are the Athletics and the Yankees.
The Bucs still hold a 3-game lead over the Phillies. Every other NL team is now mathematically eliminated from contention.
Sunday, Sept. 14. Double-header against the Phillies.
Game 1. A 17-inning marathon finally ended when Stan Musial doubled in the bottom of the 17th, scoring Del Ennis from 1st. Steve Roser took the loss, and Pete Gebrian got the win. The final was 6-5.

Pittsburgh, Wednesday Sept.17: Don Newcombe wins it and Spec Shea gets the save as the Bucs defeat the Dodgers 3-1. Brooklyn reliever Luis Aloma takes the loss.

Thursday Sept. 18: The Dodgers held a 5-3 lead going into the 8th, but reliever Emil Kush blew up and the Pirates scored 7 runs. The Bums managed 1 run in the 9th but the damage had been done. Early Wynn was credited with the 10-6 victory.
The next games will be a Sunday doubleheader against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Couldn't stay away from this Association could you KG. [:'(] I get so attached to mine it is hard to start another one and stay with it. I seem to always go back to my KGErwin Association. I'm up to 1959 WS now. I know no reports. But I just can't get into writting reports.
