RHS Base Racife

Post by witpqs »

Sid,

In EOS 7.743 the Allied Base Racife in South America (hope I am spelling it correctly) has no flag icon showing it's location. It's obvious where it is because of the map art, and the base does seem to work fine - just no icon showing.

The base has "relocated" to location 0,0

This is a problem with the WITP engine - confirmed by a Matrix programmer - and they have no idea how it happens?

It can happen to any location in any game in any mod - but it seems to like Recife in particular. I have tried some things.
But I cannot change the slot.

This is a special hard coded slot - a British entry-exit point - and no other slot will do for this mission. Each level of RHS uses a different location for the slot - and CHS a different location still.

There is not supposed to be any way to change the location like this - it must be a bug.

It can be fixed - but for political reasons it cannot be published how to fix it. You must send the save game file to some person able to edit it. I am thinking that a game of great duration with such a problem would cause much agony, so I may consider fixing such things - when I am in a place with the right tools. This is the sort of thing I think means Matrix should issue a save game editor - possibly with some security features - but this is politically incorrect in the Matrix view of the universe - and I refuse to bite the hand that feeds us (software we like). Anyway - talk to programmers off the forum - and possibly some one can reset it to the right location - which I will post in a moment.

Recife is slot 471 and it is at location 117,148.

Note that this problem sometimes occurs in multiple locations at the same time - I have seen as many as three - and it is not always the same location - but Recife (or Melbourne or Kerachi or whatever it is set to in a particular game) is the most common location.

I cannot fix this a thousand miles from home with only a brand new laptop and no applications installed.

Wow. Another strange one for WITP!

As I mentioned, it works fine (at the map art location), just no base icon! I can live with it easily (for this particular base), I was just reporting it because I thought it was an error in the scenario files.

Turns out it matters medium - it is the alternate British exit point and a major source of British units and supplies.
It happens about every two or three years (game time) in all forms of WITP - but not always to this particular slot -
and in RHS we move this slot around (Level to Level) - so it may not be obvious it is this slot sometimes. Since it should not happen
I think it needs to be addressed as a technical problem by Matrix. Until it is fixed I will attempt to insure any important game is
fixed - which is possible - but not easy to do absent a proper in turn editor (which I think should be sold as a product).

EDIT: It looks like this could be fixed by a utility if Matrix does not fix it at source. A utility could be written that would set all RHS locations to their starting x y coordinates without any risk of compromising turn security.

I have succeeded in finding the right fields in a save game file. So if this problem occurs in a long campaign game, I can fix it - if Matrix does not do so for you (generic you - anyone with the problem - in any variation - if I can find one location I can find any location).
