AAR: Defense of the USSR part 11

Post by Vic »

The germans were trying to build a new supply line through the wilderness in order to outflank Moscow. They are not going to get away with it. The Northern Front and the Moscow front are trying to do a pincer movement to stop the german advance.

Furthermore counterattacks around Moscow were costly and not that effective. The germans have build a lot of fortifications to aid their defense. That was a good move on their part. However i still managed to creep a few hexes forward north of moscow.

However in the Caucasus i managed to retake the offensive completly.
I drove the enemy all the way back to the Crimea and to Rostov.

And in Stalingrad i am gearing up for defense with some armour in reserve for counter attack.

what exactly is the germans objective? are they considered victorious after taking leningrad stalingrad and moscow even if the russians have most of ther war production behind the urals. Or is it some amount of victorypoints that has to be obtained? if that the case: what is the current state?

and what is the timelimit if the scenario? summer 42 or summer 45 prehaps?

I'm just interested in how much longer I can enjoy this exciting AAR

To win, either side must control all six of Helsinki, Warsaw, Bucharest, Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad. It is a German marginal victory if they hold until round 60 (mid 1944).

Here is the German 12th turn. January 1942.

In the North, I am trying to block the troops from Murmansk and keep the supply line open to my engineers trying to flank Moscow.

The center saw some heavy fighting and the line is quite messy right now.

In the far north of the sector, I cross the river with engineers. I also set up a para. If I can hold until spring, I can build an airbase and then cut off the road to the Murmansk front to the North. Just putting the unit there will force the Soviets to react and draw more strength into the wilderness. Paras are poor in combat given their high price, but have incredible range if you have air superiority.

SW of Kalinin, I have established my northern flank. I launched my dive bombers against the tanks massed to the north but was not very effective.

I launched an assault from 4 sides against the salient in the middle but was repulsed. I supported this attack with both artillery and dive bombers but was not successful.

In the southern sector, I found a week spot and attacked from 2 sides. I was then able to exploit into the woods.

Still further south, the Soviets are throwing up a weak line of infantry. This will prevent an easy sweep south of Moscow. I am not worried about them too much since they are on foot and will not be able to flank me quickly.

In the South, I sent significant re-enforcements to Group B in front of Stalingrad. My engineers were able to throw a bridge across the Volga. I set up a line of infantry and tanks along this Northern thrust to keep this advance open. I also set up some calvary east of the Volga to cut the road to the north (horses are not impacted by the snow). By cutting this road, I will separate the North from the South.

Pull a Picketts charge on him VIC...attack him in the middle at that clump of trees. I'm sure he's weak in the middle as he has reinforced his flanks, when you take him in the middle you will crush him and weaken his spirits...hrrrmmm where did I hear that before general? ;)
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
