First of All Welcome.
Second: read all the Must Read Thread sub threads from this forum.

Read a manual but only to understand WITP basis.

Good luck.

And use the tutorial document that came with the game (PDF on the disc/in the download) to walk through the tutorial.

Follow the tutorial by playing one of the partial map scenario's against the AI mainly to understand the game mechanics better.
There is always the forum for more important information and advice. [:D]

It will get you started. A couple of notes - there is much depth to this game. You must read the manual a couple of times. Take your time because there is too much detail to sink in all at once. Second, there are some changes and certainly way more information than is in the manual, but it's the most concise place for you to get a good grounding. The FAQ-type threads and then searching these forums are the next supplement. Definitely do start with the tutorial. It will get you up and running.

I was in the same boat as you a couple weeks ago.  I have now gone from knowing nothing to knowing a little.  There is good advice to be found in this forum.  I would like to add, the memory of knowing nothing fresh in my mind, is to make sure you have the latest version installed.  The must read threads will point the direction.
