Molotovs

Post by StephanFH »

Hello all,
Has anyone else noticed that molotovs seem excessively lethal? They seem to cause casualties almost everytime they are used, beating grenades, submachineguns and even machineguns. Why even carry grenades or anti-tank mines? Or is this historically accurate and I'm just whining? :)

I agree.

The effectiveness vs. Infantry was actually reduced a bit in the Enhanced DV mod.

There has been some discussions about the issue. Current situation is - how I see it - kind of compromise between different views. Personally I'm also for reducing their anti-infantry capability much more. But now we go with what we have [:)]

From what I can tell, grenades and molotovs and other personal explosives all seem more effective than standard SPWAW 8.40.

I don't have a problem with this.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm satisfied with the current Enhanced DVRN version small-explosives effects.

If anybody is planning to do any post-Enhanced DVRN revisions, then I would rate this issue as a very low priority issue compared to a variety of what I think are more important issues (like artillery ratings, Encyclopedia reliability, rarity ratings, etc.).

For Enhanced DV and DVRN, we reduced the HE kill power of Molotovs and reduced the amount of HE ammo for them.
We also slightly increassed the HE kill power of Grenades.

After all this time, that's something that slipped right past me. They went from 8 to 10. I guess I would've noticed had hand grenades adopted a huge "Hollywood-style" explosion graphic as seen so often in bad movies (think "Windtalkers"). [8|]

Yes had we changed the warhead size we could have had giant craters being formed....
[:D]

Myself and many others felt hand grenades basically did next to nothing against infantry before, compared to molotovs and the like, ...and still dont very much but hey, we bumped it up a little.

Uh, oh, I just had a "Spinal Tap" moment-- guitarist Nigel Tufnel was asked about an amp he owned that had a volume knob that went to 11.

Interviewer: "So, how loud is 11?"

Nigel, looking puzzled: "It's one past 10".

That being said, 10 HE kill is fine for the grenades.

Thanks for the info guys. Gunny Erwin: your "spinal tap moment" made me laugh out loud.

Ah the dreaded molotov cocktails! [:)]

It is an improvised AT weapon effective against the early war tanks whit poorly designed engine air intakes and open topped vehicles. Ofcourse it can be deadly against infantry if you drink the fluid inside. And who would throw away a bottle of burning booze at someone when you have weapons aroud? [:D] Just my personal view, its all ok though.

Bullets don't go in short arcs. Lacking grenades, booze bottles will toss over a wall very nicely.

Good terror weapon too.

Exactly, my point being that the molotov cocktail would not be much use against infantry (wery hard to get a kill or even an injury). Exception would be smoking out enemies from buildings and scorching them in a confined space where they can not manoeuvre like a halftrack. But I guess it is all debateable...

Actually I was under the impression that a Molotov Cocktail was a booze bottle filled with gasoline with a rag stuffed in the neck. Light the rag, throw the bottle, smash, poof. Thanks for the note about the early war tanks, that makes a lot of sense.
I don't engage in alcohol abuse, either.[:)]
