I've forgotten how to play

Just re-installed the game after 3 years but I'm really struggling here. I played all the tutorials to get back into the swing of it but that first solitaire scenario 'Guards Counterattack'... I just can't make any progress playing as the Soviets. I always enjoyed the urban warfare battles and don't recall them being so difficult. Tried using lots of smoke, all-out charges, sneaky end arounds I need some help to get me kick-started.

Well, I'm using Enhanced DVRN so I don't know how helpful my comments will be.  But looking at the scenario, it occurs to me that the Soviets have some very good attack options.

Your tips were very useful, especially about rallying. I also realised I was paying far too much attention to the unmodified hit chance.
