Where We Are with the Battleground Series

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

Where We Are with the Battleground Series

Post by David Heath »

Hi

I expect the new bundles to be released in July some time after Origins 2007. The current plan is to make two sets, one on the Civil War and one on the Napoleonics Wars with possibly of Age of Sail I thrown in. These will be updated to work in Windows XP and Vista OS. There will be no major new game features but will be priced to make everyone happy. I want everyone to considered this to be a re-release and not an on going project. I am going to guess the price will be around $29.99 per bundle and maybe a discount on top of that if you purchased them together at the same time. I am still working out these details but this should give everyone a good idea of what and when. There might also be some new battles released in the series but we need to take a wait andd see on doing that.

Anyone know if the user scenarios that were made to run on the old Talonsoft series will work on this version?

I can't promise but I can't see why not. What scenarios are you talking about.

Just a question, will they still have exactly the same mechanics? (The 25 man strength units)
Also, is the videos and music still included, and is music going to be added for Gettysburg?

I am probably about a day late and a dollar short on this, as I gather that for technical reasons this series has gone to reissue status, as opposed the an improved model, ala Campaign Series - David, am I correct?

There are a small things that could be done to improve the series and you already possess the model - in the form of the napoleonic games. I refer to the unit icons. The civil war utilises just a handful and all on one bmp. The Napoleonic games have separate bmps for artillery, cavalry, leaders, and infantry, providing pretty rich detail (considering the age and relative simplicity of the games) that evoked the period and enhanced (in my opinion) the gaming experience.

Please consider such a tweak, possibly in the form of an update or patch sometime in the future

Maybe a dumb question, but will the Civil War set contain the later Battleground 9: Chickamauga as well?

Battlegrounds is pretty much done and we are waiting on the manual to release it.  It should be done before the end of the month.
