Next turn the airfield at Ichang goes to level two, and the turn after that a massive LR CAP mission will be flying over Changsha where Dive has been hammering me from the air every turn. Tasked with this mission will be 143 P-40's, 20 P-39's, and possibly a bunch of Chinese fighters, although I am leaning away from them. I have stripped Burma of its good fighters because Burma doesn't have any Jap planes to speak of so I am not too worried about strikes while my fighters are away.

Beyond this, there is little else to report other than logistic and troop buildup continues.

Here is my best Chinese fighter squadron. We have agreed to use Honan as the I-16c vs Nate training ground. I have just rotated a squadron out that has experience at 53, but down to 6 planes. This is good considering they started in the low 30's. However, I only get 1 I-16 per month and don't get the P-66 Vanguard for almost 4 months (6/42).

My problem now is getting the surplus supply from Chungking (50k) and at Tsuyung (20k) to the front line troops. [:(]

I am not sure what you are talking about in using Honan. Did you mean that both you and your opponent fly fighters against each other for experience purposes? If true, that seems a little odd to me. Anyway, here are some of my Chinese fighters:

The KB raided Noumea! The airfield was pretty well hammered including my 64 B-25's and 15 Hudsons based there. Inexplicably, or so I thought, my LBA didn't so much as spit in the direction of Dive's ships. Then I remembered that LBA can tend not to fly against well protected targets without fighter escorts, and there were none in Noumea. Numerous P-36 Mohawks have just changed there command, and are loading on some of those 18 KT AK's for transshipment to New Caledonia.

In China, Changsha has once again been blasted from the air. Also, a deliberate attack by Dive has reduced the fortifications. Next turn th ambush happens however. Based in Ichang and Hengchow, there are 160 Tomahawks, Warhawks, and Airacobras flying LR CAP over Changsha next turn. Have at them lads! Interestingly, only 4 Nates flew cover with the last strike, so we could have a 'massacree in three part harmony' over Changsha.

A good day indeed. My ambush in the skies over Changsha ended in 56% losses to the enemy, about 110 of them being Nates - the Scourge of the Chinese Skies. For those of you interested:

My number one ace is MAJ Kiser, G.E. of the 24th FG with 12 kills, and 96 experience. Interestingly, the 24th holds 6 spots in Top Ten pilots - reminding me of the SEC in the typical End Of Season NCAA football rankings. [&o]

China: SE of Homan, a counter-attack force has arrived in an enemy hex, and will attack next turn. In the aftermath of the Changha Turkey Shoot, all fighter units except for two have returned to Chungking. The 24th FG is remaining on station in Hengchow flying LR CAP over Changsha, although I seriously doubt they will see any action next turn, and one of the AVG squadrons is flying CAP over Hengchow to protect the 24th.

Burma: Akyab will probably fall soon. I should have dealt with this base last turn, but I must have overlooked it. Last night I was very tired, which may have been a good thing. I more than likely would have flown reinforcements into the base, and would have run into Zero LR CAP from Rangoon and Rahaeng. My first impulse was to pummel both airfields with 4E bombers, but realized that Dive would probably anticipate this, so I am resting my B-17's this turn, and sending my LB-30's after Rangoon's AF. Dive has several bases he can run Zero LR CAP from, and has probably shifted his fighters to others. On the off-chance he hasn't, my LB-30's will nail some of them at Rangoon, if not, my rested B-17's will hit multiple bases next turn. Concerning Akyab: Inexplicably the 200th Chinese Inf Corps has been reduced to 2 AV, while the other two combat units are in relatively good shape. The 200th is assigned to Southeast Asia command, and has sufficient support, but had a crappy leader as I found out. Could this have been the reason this unit is so screwed up? I don't know, but whatever the case, Akyab is down to Forts 2, and suffered combat odds of 3:1, on the wrong end last turn, and 4:1 the turn before. A bleak situation indeed.

North Pac: My transports in SF didn't complete loading of troops for Adak Island but sailed anyway. They have been directed back to port to link up with three AK's who are finishing the loading.

Sopac: Three "cutting edge" P-36 fighter groups have embarked on fast AK's, and are heading towards Noumea. I will separate two off en route for other bases possibly, although BF's are lacking in the area.

Java: My first Sub Transport has departed Batavia for parts Southward loaded with refugees.

Editorial Note: Jap air losses surpassed Allied losses this turn.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! No air attacks reported at Changsha this turn. Go figure. My counterattack southeast of Homan retreated the unit there as I hoped, now I am leaving a unit there and retreating the rest back to Homan. I am sending the bulk of my Changsha Defenders back towards Dacca via Ledo. Dacca is defended solely by Hurricanes at the moment, and we know how well they do against Zeros.

Speaking of Burma, the weather is predicted to be surprisingly good next turn, so I am attacking Rangoon's airfield and port with my 4E's. My strikes didn't happen on Rangoon last turn but I am hoping Dive has kept his fighters there - I hate Zeros. Also, AK's have been spotted in port.

Evacuation of Javanese fragments is underway, and the core of Adak Island's future is underway. I hope they packed their mittens.

Auburn and UT fans get along pretty well usually - "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." We rarely play each other, and both hate Bama, although here is some material for you:

I am predicting another bad season for Auburn this year; we will probably win only eleven games out of thirteen again. We will lose to LSU and Florida (both are away games) but will win the rest, including our bowl game. We are re-building.

Prediction for SEC champion: (defacto National Champion) LSU. They are going to be VERY good this year unless they get beat up too bad wading through the SEC schedule.

Anyway, the last couple of turns resulted in 70 odd more Nates plummeting from the wild blue yonder. Unfortunately Dive turned the tables on me and blasted my P-40's with Zeros. I lost an equal number of P-40's as he did Nates (31 each) and he also lost 4 Zeros. Hooray for me. The P-40's are retreating to Chungking to lick their wounds.

I was going to wait until Chungking became a level 6 A/F before bringing in the 4E's. No longer. They are resting and repairing, and will deploy to China shortly. First I blast his airfields, and then I go after resources all over the place. Once I have his airfields knocked back, my own superb Chinese airforce will mobilize to strike fear in the hearts of the Nipponese stormtroopers.

I almost forgot. Dive had the temerity to send the I-175 into Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately for the brave crew, generations of sport divers will be diving on their wreckage. The sub managed to put a fish into a DD - it is already in drydock and will easily survive.

Really the standings now don't matter because we all know that SEC teams will dominate the final Top Ten standings. My predictions this year will include Florida, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and South Carolina in the Top Ten at season's end. If LSU stays healthy through the SEC, they will win all the marbles - they are going to be VERY good this year.

I screwed the pooch game-wise. Through a total lack of forethought, I left Luganville in the New Hebrides completely undefended, and Dive capitalized on it this turn by landing troops. Some of my LB's (Hudsons) from Noumea attacked, and were driven off by Zeros. I now have the other bombers there set to Naval Attack. Maybe, just maybe, they will launch this turn. Anyway, Dive has presented me with a beautiful training base when he captures Luganville. B-17's on the West Coast, and in PH are now in transit to Noumea where they will cut their teeth on Luganville.

In China, I noticed Dive's Zeros over Changsha only numbered 24. Were my P-40's in better shape, I would lie in wait again next turn. However, the first flights of 4E's landed in Chungking this turn, which is 28% towards a level 6 airfield. Irregardless, in two or three turns, Dive will suffer the slings and arrows of Boeing's best. China is such a target-rich environment strategically, he will be hating life soon I'll wager. I have had to disperse the Chinese airforce in Chunking to make room for the incoming 4E's. Dive and I have a houserule where 50 planes per AF level can reside in the base. Now I have lots of vulnerable AC spread all over China, but the 4E's will make up for it I am sure.

Operation Java Base Force Evac is starting to ramp up, only limited so far to PP's.

The 1st Marine Division arrives in two days! Unfortunately most of my AP's are in PH, but have their courses set to SF.

Something strange happened this turn. My 64 Marauders at Noumea are now 50% damaged. Maybe 16 flew missions, but 30 are damaged. Strange. Anyway, B-17's have started arriving in Noumea, and will rest for a few turns before attacking the New Hebrides.

My troops bound for Adak Island are nearing Alaskan waters, however I have grown concerned about the Jap Glen-carrier near Dutch Harbor spotting them. I have dispatched four ASW TF's to Dutch as well as two CV's with all but one SBD squadron set to ASW. When the Adak TF nears Dutch, I will delay it until my other ships can sink or run off the Glen carrier.

China: two turns in a row Dive has sent only 24 Zeros with the Changsha bombers. Here comes Ambush Part 3b. I flew in all of my P-40's and the P-39's (RIP) to provided LR CAP over Changsha. Perhaps we can do some damage. I was VERY tempted to prematurely launch my 4E's at Dive's Chinese airfields this turn, but I elected to wait at least one more turn to allow fatigue levels to come down. Also, land reinforcements for Changsha are only a few hexes away - or at least the first wave is.

Java: Batavia rolled over for Dive this turn. A dismal effort indeed. A couple of subs have managed to spirit a couple of fragments of the 1st DAF in Malang. Two more subs are there, and ready to load some of the 2nd DAF, but I haven't the PP's for that until next turn.

The Wasp arrives in 66 days, but the Lex is out of action for longer than that I am afraid.
