Convoys ...

Post by IrishGuards »

I think you can do some serious damage with subs .. Just a matter of timing ..
One thing I dont understand is why after the convoys take numerous hits .. I don't see there effeciency going down ....
I would think .. there eff % would drop .. as well as speed ...

I understand what you're saying here, but no ships in this game lose speed regardless of damage.
What's with the negative waves?

Yep I know .. And now I don't have to .. Thx [;)]
I think maybe some damage to naval units should cause speed reduction .. [&:]
Pretty accurate .. [:'(]

I would doubt transports speed would be reduced since most torpedo hits on transports meant no transport to slow you down.

Now that is untrue of other ships so they should slow down but I would not recommend that without seriously looking at the cost of the different ships.

Sea movement rates are much slower than "reality" already - 20 days steaming (1 turn) at 10kts (say) for 24 hours/day (which is what ships do) = 4800 nautical miles = twice across the Atlantic!

It takes approximately 10 days for most transports to cross the Atlantic in real life.  I have rented cabins on them and that is the normal steaming time on todays transports.  I would assume they were a little slower in the 40's but I do not know that for sure.

That is btw a New York to London.  Not sure about other areas but I did read that it took 10 days to transport for the landing on the Americans in Algeria.

convoy info is available at http://www.warsailors.com/convoys/index.html - departure and arrival dates are notesd, as are losses.

A quick sample of Atlantic convoys gives passage times of 11-14 days from North America to the UK - start points are Halifax or New York.
