Bombur vs Lee (again) GC Bombur mod

Post by Bombur »

01/15/43-Imperial Headquarters, Tokyo

-Tojo: I can´t believe it!!! We are going to surrender withouth losing even one carrier from KB!!!!!
-Emperor Bombur: The war is lost, Lee took Iwo Jima and Bataan Is., he is threatening to burn our cities and starve our people
-Yamamoto: I don´t think it´s a good reason for capitulation. Our planes had just destroyed 80 enemy fighters in Bataan Is.....
-Emperor Bombur: Well...he also promised to playtest my new mod, no one was interested....[:(]
-Admiral Nagumo: I don´t see nothing special with that mod, seems a slightly improved (or maybe worsened) variation of Nik mod v5.3
-Emperor Bombur: Well, I had some divine inspiration, I had a dream where my old ancestrals told me that, by decreasing mvr and speed for all aircraft I could achieve (1) decrease of A2A losses (2) increase of A2A losses in fighter to bomber combat and (3) a greater "equalization" between fighters.
-Yamashita: Aren´t you ashamed of copying other people´s mods?
-Emperor Bombur: Well, I placed Nik in the credits.....
-Yamamoto: What about that prize you were about to win: dumbest WiTP player of all times
-Emperor Bombur: For allowing Lee to be at our gates withouth losing even one naval battle and with airpower essentially intact....well, we hope no one will ever learn about this......this is a secret meeting, isn´t it?

RE: Bombur vs Lee (again) GC Bombur mod

Post by Bombur »

-Here is Bombut mod (with credits to Nik)

Bombur mod

-This mod is built over Nik mod v5.3, without Nik´s work and the dramatic improvement he achieved in the WiTP engine, this mod wouldn´t be possible.
-This mod is to be played with PDU on.
Changes v0.3
1-Speed (both maximum and cruise) halved for all aircraft, in relation to stock values (not Nik mod values).
2-Mvr values halved for all aircraft, in relation to Nik mod v5.3 values
Purpose: preliminary testing suggests that it will decrease both A2A bloodiness, increase figther vs bomber effectiveness, and also result in a relative equalization between fighters. Zeroes are still better than Buffaloes and Corsair better than Zeroes but kill rates will decrease (hopefully)
3-Endurance doubled to restore normal range values
4-The Ki-61 now arrives at 01/43
5-The D4Y (both versions) now carries two 250kg bomb. The D4Y now is the D4Y2 and appears in 04/44. Both the D4Y1 and the Val will upgrade to this model.
11-Production of the B6N starts in 06/43
12-A new version for the D4Y was created. The D4Y1 uses slot 14, is rated as fighter bomber (as the plane was unfit for dive bombing), has no armor and 20% decreased dur (in an attempt to simulate the unreliable engines). It´s possible to upgrade the land based Vals to D4Y1 but it´s probably not a good idea. D4Y production starts in 01/43.
13-PT boats were significantly downgraded (for all nationalities). They have only one torpedo mount and only one torpedo anmo. While they are still lethal against barges, effectiveness against warship will be decreased. This should allow them to be used freely withouth house rules
15-Accuracy and effect for all AA weapons decreased by 20%, as the reduced mvr and speed make bombers too vulnerable to AA fire
Changes v0.4
1-Hong Kong fort level decreased to 2
2-Fortifications in Burma decreased to 0
3-Fortifications in Malaya decreased to 0
4-Fortifications in Phillipines decreased to 0
Purpose: In NM v5.x it´s possible to delay the Japanese advance for a long time, making their historical expansion very hard to achieve. We hope to fix this by decreasing forts in these critical areas.
5-D4Y2 now is the D4Y3, speed and endurance somewhat increased. Uses Mitsubishi engines instead of Aichi ones. The D4Y1 is again a dive bomber but the decrease in durability remains and it only appears in 05/43. It´s still impossible to upgrade CV squadrons to the D4Y before 04/44. The idea is to have two planes representing the inline versions of the D4Y and the much more reliable radial engine versions. To accomplish this I “deleted” the D4Y2 (a somewhat better version than the D4Y1 but still with the troublesome engines) and made the D4Y3 to appear earlier to allow some upgrade before 06/44 (historically the D4Y3 only appeared in the 2nd half of 1944). I´m uncertain to what extent this is a good solution, but it´s probable better than the one version in the stock scenario.

First turn (we are playing with historical 1st turn on) exposed an obvious trouble in the game. The decrease in forts levels in Hong Kong resulted in the premature fall of the British colony. To be corrected in v0.5. Attack on PH as expected. No BB´s sunk, lots of them damaged....
In A2A, Japan took 2 losses (a Zero and a Val over PH). Allied took 28. The 14:1 rate in first turn is bigger than expected (preliminary tests showed 2:1-10:1 range in 1st turn)
Wake didn´t fall (for now...)

No air combat in 2nd turn, and also no attacks against Japanese ships in Malaya. The assault on Wake failed badly. The allied lost and AVD that happened to end the turn near the invasion force on Legaspi, and CA Houston was also badly damaged by Army land based naval bombers Southwest from Taiwan. Guam falls.

Few combat today. Colonial airforces are hiding themselves is a disonorable way. On the other hand, the Asiatic flee attempted to intervene with the disembarks in Legaspi with mixed results. Japan lost a DD and the enemy one DD and 2 PT boats. Japan lost 4 planes to flak. I´m still not sure about the effects of flak in this new mod.

ALLIED PLAYER RESPONSE (By Lee)

So far 3 days in the Allies have taken the usual beating but several ships escaped the Philippines. Which direction they went I cannot say online but suffice to say their crews are sunbathing and dreaming of "I Shall Return" remarks by their generals.  Malaya has been evacuated to the greatest extent possible as the leftover colonial soldiers dig in behind cardboard boxes and strips of newspaper.  Chinese troops gird themselves for bad sushi and oyako don as japanese troops swarm upriver...

I am excited to try this new Mod and play Bombur again.  He is being very humble-- we played Guadacanal Scenario in the game before last and he smashed me.  Our different styles should make this campaign very  interesting.  Last game I risked heavy losses to move the Allies into a better "pole position", taking Wake Island early and then Iwo Jima & Marcus Island in late 1942.  Throughout our campaign my losses were routinely 3 to 1 in the air versus the IJN, and I lost nearly 30 transports on the watertaking Iwo Jima & Marcus Island, but ultimately the war was won with the least amount blood spilled total.  Good for all our electronic soldiers!

Anyway stay tuned this will get interesting...

12/10/41-Imperial Headquarters-Tokyo

-Emperor Bombur: Any news from the frontlines?
-Yamamoto: Things are not going well for us. The assault on Wake was repulsed, and you now very well hoe dangerous Wake could be in allied hands. Remember our last game against Lee.
-Emperor Bombur: We could reinforce Marcus Islands and Iwo Jima, but Lee is a smart guy, I´m pretty sure he will get new avenues for a counterattack
-Tojo: I fear we cannot spare troops to defend these places for now. We need to fix this inconvenience at Wake. I have a plan but won´t talk about it...for now....
-Emperor Bombur: What is going on in the Philippines.
-Tojo: Not sure, but our Type 1 Lighter pilots are reporting that flak in Clark field is suprisingly light, maybe it´s your new mod
-Emperor Bombur: Yes, I may have made a mistake with new AA values. It will be somewhat troublesome when the allied receive hordes of level bombers. Those new mods are always troublesome. What about Air combat.
-Tojo: The allied airforce simply disappeared from everywhere. Enemy air opposition is close to zero...
-Emperor Bombur: I´m worried, President Lee is probably planning something really evil....

Five days since PH and our pilots cannot find even one allied plane.....an allied counterstrike in Legaspi suffers heavy losses. Flak claimed two more losses. Almost all losses due to flak are unfortunate dive bombers. Still to early to see how flak is working.

-Japanese bombers hit Clark field destroying 8 P-40 in the ground. The reason the colonial forces decided not to counter the raid with their fighters are a complete mistey. Ryujo airgroup finally was able to sink the enemy DD we almost allowed to flee yesterday...

RE: Bombur vs Lee (again) GC Bombur mod

Post by Bombur »

I have the impression I screwed the AA system. As preliminary tests showed excessive losses due to AA fire, I decreased AA acc and effect. As a result, Japanese losses to AA fire are almost zero up to now. Hopefully, I´m wrong, but this is probably a serious issue....on the game, Lee´s AF again didn´t fly. Japan advance is slow due to logistical constraints. Historical 1st turn usually results in poorly supplied troops in the beacheads. The allied forces again took heavy losses attempting to drive Japanese naval infantry back to the sea.

Never was mod rejected in one week....Lee and me agree that this mod has a disastrous bug in AA fire. It was due to decrease accuracy. I didn´t give up. A new mod was created and a new AAR will be written.
