NEED ADVICE!!!!

Post by stall84 »

Hey all,

I was a huge HTTR fan... still play it every now and then. I personally love ground combat and the types of TOE's they ahve in these games.

However Grigsby's War in the Pacific is probably the best wargame Ive ever played.. simply bcause of the production factor and others I cant mention right now.

Heres the thing.. Ive already got both HTTR and WITP.

I can buy 1 new game under $60....
Should I go for Conquest of the Agean (and give some descent reasons why because HTTR seemed a little "lacking)

Should I go with War plan orange? (BB vs. BB) sounds like a lot of fun... I'd look forward to taking the planed out of the mix.

Or should I go with that new Carriers at War game.. which sseems overly focused on Carrier tactics in the Solomons.

HELP.!
ADVICE!
PLEASE!

I wanna make a purchase TONIGHT!!

COTA definitely has a much broader scope than HTTR did. But beyond that, the system has come a long way since then. My personal pet peeves with HTTR have been addressed with COTA, like a realistic supply system and intelligent formations (no more attacks being led by the mortar platoon...[;)])

I played CAW in it's older iteration and I enjoyed the realtime effect, but the missions seemed rather boring after only a few months of gameplay... Move, search, strike, hope for the best...

No opinion about WPA...

I think you will be pleasantly suprised with COTA, especially if the Med theater interests you. I've been wargaming for over 35 years, and for me it's as good as it gets.

Thats sooo funny

I remember months ago posting in the HTTR support forum about the mortar platoons

I was like "Hey.. I dont think they sent their 81mm mortar teams in as the spearhead in the real war matrix *big wink*
Thank god they fixed that

One big consideration is what type of of military conflict are you most interested in.  I bought two rather expensive and technically impressive naval games, only to put them aside after only a few weeks of play.  My main area of knowledge and interest is in land warfare so that's where I should put my money.  If you prefer land warfare at the level of a corps to regiments, then the clear choice is CotA.  This game won many awards for good reason, it is simply a great operational warfare simulation.

I never played HTTR, so I can't really compare specifics of the two.  However, I am aware of the fact that CotA is a significant upgrade from the older Panther games.  If you liked HTTR, you should love CotA.
