LOL Eagle Squadrons

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

LOL Eagle Squadrons

Post by Hard Sarge »

well, been doing my reseach and tracking, and finally got enough info to add the pilots to the 3 Eagle Squadrons for BoB41

go into the game to make sure of who I already had and who I need to put in, and dang I see more pilots then should be there, the AI added pilots to the roster, oh well, no hassle, but then I am looking and dang if the AI didn't get there names right !

the AI putting random names into a squadron short of pilots, randomly picked names (it has a file of names it can use) that really flew with the Squadron !!

not importent or anything, but sort of a gee, that is neat, kind of deal

the 3 Eagle Squadrons before they became the 4th FG, would have some 260 pilots flying for them, they lost 109 men

the stories about the Yanks in the RAF before the US entered is a good and interesting story, Billy, Shorty, Tobin, Mamedoff

interesting and sad

Billy flew with 601 Squadron, a unit with a nickname of the Millenaires Squadron, as almost all of the pilots were upper class and rich,

(when the war started, they were sitting around and wondering what they were going to do for gas for there cars, so they could get around, so they put one of them members in charge of working it out, so he is driving around and got a idea, came back and told the guys, well that is that, we should be okay, what did you do they asked ?, I seen a Gas station when I driving around, and I bought it, but they then found out that the station was almost empty, now what are we going to do they asked, and standing around trying to figure it out, one looked to the other, hey, your on the board of derectors of a gas company, I am ? I forget, well, call up your girl and find out, he was, and they then didn't have any trouble with keeping there station filled with gas)

needless to say, it is better story in the book :)

oops

the Eagles are a little HARD to track and keep in order, as they moved around a bit between themselfs, pilots from 71 helped with the forming and replacement of leaders, but then when the losses started to build up for 71, the other two started sending pilots back, plus a number of Yanks were moved into and out of RAF squadrons as needed or wanted

so with in reason, I have tried to keep with in the timeline of when they showed up, but some, are importent members of other squadrons, so have been put there instead

but over all, it should be reasonable

ahh, this will drive you nuts

looks like the ranks for the Eagles are going to be a little goofy, since it is a Yank Squadron, it is giving them Yank Ranks, but not following what I am giving them, so like one, has a 2nd Lt as the CO, even though he is in the data base as a SL and as a Major

ahhh

well, here are the Eagles

(remember that some pilots are set on delay, so that is not all of the pilots that belong to the Squadron)

I left Churchill in the squadron he was in, in BoB, while he was very importent in the forming of 71, early in 41 he was ill and replaced by Taylor, so, by our timeline, he is already part and gone from the squadron

Brown and Johnston's also have the wrong ranks ?????

Dates of forming and Dates of being Opp and dates of going into combat

are a little ruff

71 was formed in Oct of 40, but never got into a action for a long time, a number of Yanks who were transfered into it, ended up leaveing, so they could fight with there old units

121 was formed and got into action a bit quicker, they had planes ready for it and most of the pilots had finished training or were pulled from other units

133 they took there time with, they had a pipeline of men going though training, and so took there time to get it right, but in the end, 133 was known as a HARD luck Squadron, losing 8 pilots in a very short time, with out being in action, they were also, the squadron that ended up going on a mission and never coming back

there were rumors of a 4th Eagle Squadron in the works, but the pilots were sunk while making the crossing, so it will never been known if they were really planning on a 4th Squadron, or if they were going to be used as replacements

soon, the 3 Eagle Squadrons would be combined and formed into the 4th FG
