Looks like a sound effect problem.  If you can, please zip and send me the autosave and I will test it.  Alternatively you could restart the game, loading your save, but have sound turned off.  I'm thinking the problem won't repeat but I can't be 100% certain.

Frank, I ported the save over to my workplace notebook this morning and the game is running fine with the sound on. Perhaps it is a driver issue on my home pc. I still have the save if you want it, but you might not be able to replicate it. Would need an addy too if you are still interested in the file.

Thanks

Oh right, what was I thinking?  My email is fhunter@telus.net

And yes, it sounds like either a driver issue or perhaps even more likely, the sound conflicting with another program.

Your video and sound drivers are both from 2004 - please update them to the latest versions and see if that helps.

My first try at the game i went to quit after a few impulses and i received a number of access violations. One of them locked up my PC and i had to restart it. Windows XP with all updated hardware, as i was just tinkering i hadn't saved.

When quitting its safer to exit by using the old Escape key.  Its a "soft" ending.

Thanks, knock wood that is the only time i've been getting the Access Violations...when quitting/exiting. Doesn't effect gameplay[;)], i am enjoying your game more and more with every turn. It really does recreate the atmosphere of the WW1 era and has alot of depth and replayability. Obviously you spent alot of time in those 5 years honing the game and i think the Strategic Movement is just right, not too much or too little...bravo![8D]
Also may i add that i had no trouble whatsoever with the interface...very easy to pick up and play and as an old boardgamer i am well accustomed to "activation" and "phases".

I tried that, and for the first time was greeted by a new dialog box:

I got this for the first time tonight at the end of the 1914 scenario. I reloaded the autosave and what appears to be where it happened was when the victory window came up. I hit continue and and found that my HQ's had been renamed. I also findthe Frech retreating into Holland interesting. Fabek used to be Kluck and Below was Bulow. Not sure who Schubert was. Was this a planned reorg? The way things are going I wouldn't have canned anybody [:)]Image

Thanks J P. I've read the other similar problems people were having were sound related so I've been playing with the sound off. I hadn't heard anybody mention the HQs getting renamed, and I had not run into the problem is the 3 games I'd played before this one. I thought it was odd and that's why I posted it. I'm updating the drivers anyway just in case that affects anything.
