Arty attacks

Post by MagnusOlsson »

Hi.
I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this feature, but I'd like to discuss it and possibly suggest a change in upcoming versions. When doing an artillery attack (plotting 6b or whatever) you can sometimes get the opponents commanders to reinforce the unit you are attacking. This is a 'convenient' way of a) emptying HQ's prior to making a real attack on a more important position and b) a nice way of forcing units out of HQ's and into the blizzard (fx). Obviously, your opponent may have a hard time moving them back since readiness goes down and the unit that gets reinforced might not be situated on a railroad.
I think reinforcements when attacked by artillery should be banished, since it makes no sense whatsoever to reinforce a unit that's being shelled. Alternatively, it should be added to the houserules.
It is easy to spot this kind of attacks with ALT-M/ALT-N...

Rgds,
Magnus

Btw, how come we've had both flight and skyscrapers for like 100 years, but suddenly they start to interact in a way that's not intended? All over the world? Coincindence, I think not.

OT reply.
IIRC in 1944 a B-25 on a training mission flew into the Empire state building. There was a low cloud ceiling at the time, and it was nighttime, (and remember NY was under blackout at the time too) which is presuably why the crew never saw the building in time to avoid it. All the crew died, but no one else did, as the building was deserted at the time. I can't recall the exact structural dammage, but it was obviously not great.
Also I seem to recall some aviation safety journal articals from the earley 80's which had the odd skyscraper impact accident in them.
Usually involving a helicopter or light aircraft and you guessed it... a Skyscraper, trying to occupy the same airspace. Usually in conditions of poor visibility.
"We're having a war, and we want you to come!"
So the pig began to whistle and to pound on a drum.
"We'll give you a gun, and we'll give you a hat!"
And the pig began to whistle when they told the piggies that.

You're right! Did a quick search and found this:

1945 July 28th. Airplane crash Empire State Building: B-25 bomber crashed into the Empire State Building (between 78th and 79th floors), 13 people died including 10 residents

Good point, on the issues list.
