resolution problem

Post by Rat Race »

I recently got a new laptop and I've noticed a couple of problems trying to play COTA:
- when I choose "Match current screen resolution" in the start up menu nothing happens.
- if I choose the only option available (1024x768) the map looks strechted and the unit icons like fat cows
i have a 15' monitor wide screen, vista OS.
is there anything I can do to improve the image?
Thanks very much

Rat Race, try this:

right click the CotA icon on your desktop, click 'properties' and paste this command to the "start in" line:

"C:\Matrix Games\Conquest of the Aegean\COTA.exe" /resolution 800x600

(make sure you include quotation marks)

Assuming of course that your path is C:\Matrix Games\Conquest of the Aegean\COTA.exe.

try it also with 1280X1024, or any other resolution supported by your video card.

Also check the "read me" file for other video settings issues like dpi=96, etc.

Hope this helps

Isn't there also a display setting for aspect ratios that will control whether or not the image is stretched on a wide sreeen monitor?

The aspect ratio may be adjusted via graphics drivers (though ATI's option doesn't work). If the feature is available, you can sometimes select an aspect ratio via the LCD hardware.

To the OP though, that's an odd problem. COTA's "match current screen resolution" option has always worked fine for me using a widescreen LCD.

Hello

I have much of the same problem. It won't start if I tell it to match resolution. I'm running Vista, but the fix mentioned above doesn't work for me. It says the path is not correct, although it should be. I'm aiming for 1680x1050...

Is there an update to this problem?

PS. also: there is no 'whats new' in patch 3 file in my directory. The 'whats new' file in my COTA directory only describes patch 2.

regards

The precise error message is: the folder '"C:\Matrix Games\Conquest of the Aegean\COTA.exe" /resolution 1680x1050' specified in the start in box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and that the path is correct.

Thanks, simovitch! Deleting the .avi files helped. And the reason I didn't see the new whatsnew.pdf was I only looked in the start menu and it doesn't show there, only in the root directory.
