CML TYPE SHIPS

Post by Herrbear »

Sid --

I notice that in RHS there are a number of minelaying ships that you classify as Cruiser Mine Layers (CML). The actual Ship Type is classified as a CL. My question is will the game accept this type of ship to lay mines or would it be better if these were classed as ML or DM?

Thanks.

Well - as you know - cruisers can lay mines. These vessels - and a number of others [notably armed merchant cruisers] - were reclassified as CL - and then extensively tested - so they would behave more aggressively. Seems a ML to hard code is supposed to run if anything nasty is within some gigantic radius! As far as I know, this technical classification trick (we call such vessels "ultra light cruisers" and there is a thread of that title explaining the ideas involved in detail)
works very well indeed. Finally our AMCs, or CMLs behaving as AMCs, act as they ought to do.

I know they are supposed to, but I have done two tests and in both, the ships have not dropped any mines. Has anyone else tried to see if they lay mines when classed as CLs?

Minelaying is always a bit tricky.  There is a class of Allied MSW that is also supposed to lay mines - but most of the time they won't.  Most ML will do it - once - but getting them to rearm is very hard.  So far, however, I have not had any problem with Japanese ML in the form of CL.  Do the task forces accept the mission? If so, how do you know they don't lay the mines?
