RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
So, you are saying database initialization works (besides the automatic correction made) but when loading the (first?) save game you get that error? Are you sure you used the correct scenario number for DB initialization? That your savegame is named witp157.pws does not mean that it uses scenario 157.
*edit*
BTW, the following "I copy witpload in scen game folder, and with cmd execute witpload /e /s157 and create" is not necessary anymore since about V0.2. WitpDecoder does this now automaticallz for you _if_ you enter the correct scenario number for database initialization (and you have a correctly placed witpload.exe)

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
What if any is the format for adding a password to the .bat file ? Loaded the latest WitPDecoder and appears to have initialized ok. But when trying to load the recent saved game, tells me its the wrong password. Do I need quotation marks, comments, spaces ? Password is a 6 character alphanumberic item. No spaces.

It's worth checking whether the .bat file that launches WitPDecoder contains the word 'REM' at the start of the line containing your password. If it does, edit out the 'REM' - it's the command that instructs the system to treat the line as a comment, with the result that any instructions in the line never get executed.
Your password should not need to be contained within quotes.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Yes working now, i put the pass in witpdecode.bat second line (passwhere).
One cuestion what file load every turn witp001? or save scenario?

Load the scenario save game file after each turn resolution, not the witp001 combat replay save.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Scout, the most common issue with getting the password to work on a pbem save file is putting it in the proper place in the batch file.
The file has two lines at the top. The first one starts with "REM" and has a sample of what the next line should look like, with your password replacing the "sample" password. The second line, below the remark does not have "REM" at the start, and is the actual line where you need to replace "yourpasswordhere" with your actual password.
Give it a try. This tool is quite worth the effort. [:)]

Did this, still no dice. Cpt Sherwood even sent me his file as an example. Same thing I did. So I'm going to delete EVERYTHING and try again. If at first you don't suceed, try, try again ........

OK, completely deleted and re-installed. Changed the bat file to include password and the end of the line.
Still no dice. I am Japan so I clicked that on the initialization screen and clicked pbem as well.
My experience that my pc problems are usually due to me, 101 times out of 100. So what am I missing here ?[&:]

Where did you guys get a full map of subchaser's all in one image file? All I seem to have it the seperate map parts that the game uses.
ORIGINAL: Skyros
I have a 9 meg version of subchasers map (I think) that I have used for Main Map and Bigmainmap and it works great. I can see everything in the hexes for support and repair clearly.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Scout, I'm not sure whether the password checking of WitpDecoder is case-sensitive (Markus can confirm whether it is), but I assume this is so.
Assuming it is case-sensitive, is it possible that your password contains some characters in upper case, some in lower, and the password value you have entered into the witpdecoder.bat file doesn't? Or vice versa? This might be worth checking.
If your witpdecoder.bat file otherwise matches the one Cpt Sherwood sent you, it's hard to see why you are getting this error. Might be worth posting the contents of your witpdecoder.bat file, substituting asterisks or such like in the place of your password. This might result in some further suggestions.
I agree with USS America: this tool is so useful it is worth persevering to get it to work.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Here's my bat file with * replacing my password. No special characters, strictly alphanumeric. All lower case.
Program appears to initialize fine, just can't get past the password problem. Tried it on both a stock Sc15 and a modified version of BigB's mod (where I redistributed Japanese lift traffic at turn 0). Odd thing, is I have played around (successfully) with a older version of WitPDecoder in the past. Just don't remember having a password related issue.
bat file contents .....
echo off
REM java -Djava.library.path=%CD% -jar witpdecoder2.jar PasswordHere
java -Djava.library.path=. -jar witpdecoder2.jar ******
Thanks for the hekp guys ! And a special thanks to Woo's for creating and upgrading this tool ......

Bat file contents are fine. Even tried pasting copy of your contents into my batch file (changing password to my own, of course!). Worked fine. Wish it hadn't, as that might have given some clue - I am afraid this has me beat at the moment [:(].

Yes it is, and no that is not the problem. _I_ can load scout's save file given his password. It must be a problem on his computer (except that he reports the same problem on a different computer).
The only remaining reason I can imagine is that he uses a setup with a strange input-encoding (e.g. forcing Java to use UTF-16) and thus the program gets confused because suddenly every letter is two bytes.
Did anyone else ever had problems with witpdecoder when activating different input encodings on his computer (e.g. Asian characters)? Is "South Bend, In" maybe somewhere in the Pacific?

No Woos, South Bend, IN is in the USA, in Indiana. You would not think he would have changed his input-encoding.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Presumably scout1's password parameter isn't capable of being treated as some other value that qualifies the command line, and isn't a Java or DB engine 'reserved word' that's being interpreted otherwise than as a password?
Might it be worth checking how characters input from his keyboard are being interpreted (e.g. as East Asian characters)? Also, what about the language format in which the witpdecoder.bat file is being saved - is it conceivable that it's being saved as a double byte character set file? Suspect this might cause batch file execution to fail before it hit the password problem, but any port in a storm.
May be worth checking Control Panel -> Regional and Language Settings to see if there's anything out of the ordinary that's affecting things.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Guys,
Thanks a lot for sharing advise and things to look for. As Woos has pointed out, the problem appears to be exclusively on my end. I've embbed a snapshot of the language settings from the control panel (at least I think I did, won't know for sure until I hit the submit button to know for sure as I don't see it on my screen at the moment. Just let me know what to go hunt for and I'll dig it up. I do want to use this tool, but also this has become something of a mission for me ... Just seems damn strange. Woos has been extremely helpful and patient looking into this. Something odd is on my end.
To continue my quest, could someone start a sc15 for pbem as japan, create and initialize the WitpDecoder subfolder. Then email me a zipped version of the entire subfolder along with the save game file and password used. Just make sure you can get into the game and Decoder with it. I tried the other way and others opened what I could not though I created it. Now I'm curious if it will work (or not) the other direction .....[&:]

What is the Entry below "English (United States)" in the Installed services list. I mean the barely visible blue icon which seems to contain a "K". This isn't maybe something like "Korean"? If yes, try removing it.
You might also want to click on Advanced, there is something to switch off most of the language support (sorry am on Linux currently and can't look it up). It shouldn't be necessary to disable it (e.g. I have languages support enable so I can type either with German or with English keyboard) but one never knows.

RE: WitpDecoder; Now providing some overview
Just a quick note,
tried 2 different things
1) created a dummy pbem (sc15) as japan with a different password (hey, I'm grasping at straws), saved and tried. Got the same password error
2) created dummy AI game with me as Japan (Sc15), saved and tried. Successfully went right in.
So it would appear that the base files I downloaded didn't get corrupted. Hence, either I can't edit a bat file to save my life (always a possibility [;)]) or I don't remember my password (but Woos used it and got in) or ...... ? Need some of the PC more literate to fill in possibilities for me to explore ......
Thanks in advance .....
