At last

In Hornet Leader PC, you command a squadron of the U.S. Navy’s elite F/A-18 Hornet Strike Fighters! You select the pilots and arm the aircraft based on real-world mission briefings. Once you reach your objective, you evaluate threats, and do what needs to be done to destroy the target!

At last there appears another game apart from Panther's Bulge game that I'm quite excited about.

Love the concept and I can't wait to see how it plays. This one looks like it will ooze gameplay.

Any added extras from the card game? Will you use the PC to enhance the game in anyway i.e sound effects etc?

Hopefully, development is far enough along (at 0.91c) that we'll see this fairly soon. I'm interested in this, too...

Shades of an old favorite, "Flight Commander II" - but this one sounds like it focuses on air to ground missions, how excellent!

Would it be considered too early to ask for a Vietnam expansion pack?  [:D]

Well, if I remember correctly, there's more than a few expansions for the paper game.

Actually Flight Commander II was tactical scale UGOIGO; it was written in Windows 3.1 and runs just dandy on my WinXP machine, no speed altering TSRs needed. You can get it via the underdogs site, should you want to give it a try.

I had the original GMT boxed Hornet Leader as well. I hope that's the version they incorporate into Hornet Leader PC. The new Vassal version, Hornet Leader II is rather simplified and since you've got the PC to handle so much of the grind work a bit more complexity would be fine.

There will definitely be sound effects and full original music as well, and some nice little explosions too. A battle without explosions and sounds isn't much fun, is it? :)

Will the game be limited to F-18 Squadrons and the time periord they flew / fly, or will there be multi-role fighters like F-16s or F-4s?

I also think the question to ask is, will it be easy to mod? The card game (obviously) could be easily modded. The question will be, can I roll my own or is Matrix going to make me buy an expansion at some point?

Well with Derek programming the game, it eases my fears about someone using that horrific Down in Flames engine.

The best PC game I've ever owned and yes, it still runs fine on my XP machine too - but boy could it use mouse scrolling and zoom!

For those of you that have played the card game, are Wild Weasel missions exciting to play?  I would love to see that in the PC version.  The cat and mouse nature of SEAD missions in Vietnam make it an ideal expansion idea in my mind, BTW.

In the "Card" game you planed and executed the entire strike package. You get a target then select the planes and pilots to fly the mission. Some planes are tasked as strike birds, some as Escorts, and some as SEAD. For me the mission planing is almost as much fun as the mission execution.

This is great news. I'm really excited about this one!

I own both the Board game and the Vassal Modules and I'll soon own this version also! [:)]

You'll be told on the day they release it. That's official (and correct) Matrix policy.

How will the PC version differ from the VASSAL module?

We virtual pilots will keep an eye on that. The current news in the air combat sim today is poor enough like that, I'd hate to miss an occasion to enjoy a game like that, even if I may not need a HOTAS to play this one [;)]
