Team League Play

Post by Karacan »

I want to keep this separate from the other battles...

The Rules:

The teams: ONLY play them in Netgames. If adding AI to the battle, it has to be at least two levels above the highest jock skill. Oh, and no saving teams, please. We'll notice if a deceased jock reappears. ;)

Selfmade designs: Of course, include them. :) That's the point of them. But please, stay away from changing the names of wellknown titans to make them appear as something different than they are (for example, naming a Unicorn a Duellist, only to surprise the enemy with that first Gauss-shot).

Rules of behaviour: Eject, run, flee for your life, save your titans and the money they cost, if you think that is right. Go for the kills, maim and punish the other one, get the experience, dominate the world by ruling out other contenders...

Sorry, forum went down while I was going to post. ;)

Well, your own teams, of course. Fresh from the HQ.

Yesterday saw a victory for my Fallen Angels against Pete's team, which name I didn't catch. ;)
Though somehow my close combat titan got separated by a hillside from the rest of my team and fell prey to three ugly headshots, he was avenged when one of his jocks tried to eject while having a swim, and another one who's titan's engine got into the way of my leader's fist.

I'll take and modify this note accordingly.

Fallen Angels, Karacan, leader Yuko Dai Tanaka, 1 battle (1 win), current jocks: 3, lost 1 jock.

Name your teamdetails. :)

I think my ex-team was called "The Merciless Fist". As only one jock survived, I couldn't quite afford to enlist and equip two more.
New team is called "Middle Finger".
Karacan, do you think we should allow solo matches from within the teams? (It'd be useful for working on a particular jock's skills and help the team cash ... and would allow weakened teams like my first one, to continue to fight until they can afford to recruit again.)

Are these the standard tournament rules? Or any team with any capabilites. I'm pretty sure noone will relish playing the team I started 2 years ago.

No my friend he's talking about starting an experience team from scratch and doing battle with it. The problem with this is that whoever wins their 1st 2-3 games is going to be bloody hard to beat with a 300pt experience team starting from scratch.

(PS: stop blowing my cover, there must be someone out who might buy my "innocent") :)

the result would be that other people would play eachother instead of him, until they were good enough to take him on, and then they'd fight him.

I don't think that a lead of two to three victories makes it a surefire winner yet, especially with novice teams. Sure, once the first promo comes, it's going to be rather hard, but then you also will see a lot of headhunts, where the killing of one jock becomes more important than overall victory. :)

My v1.4 experience team is all champions in assaults. I'm thinking noone wants to face them. I know I don't. They have way more experience then you may think.

I suggest that tournament rules be followed instead. That seems more fair and fun. Though of course, random teams is always a challenge.

However, rosary, your team didn't grow so high due to netplay... start a new team, and be welcomed.

That's the point. Start now, grow powerful, and be feared by everyone. :) Like firestorm said... if someone's team proves too powerful for someone else, he won't challenge him.

Self designed teams are so much more fun than random battles.

Problem is, they're also that much harder to control too. We tried that in the initial rounds of tourneys, but you had to send your team to the host for confirmation, and that gave him an edge - knowing your team. It didn't last for long - the confirmation. Too much of an hassle. So you'd have to trust everyone. Unfortunatly, there's always someone who doesn't think rules are to be followed.
Most people just want quick battles, and that means random duels or teams. But you are right, self designed is more fun.

That is true what Iceman wrote. There were problems. I'm willing to try new things but there has to be at least some rules.

When I say rules I just meant rules in terms of Squad creation. The game itself otherwise specifies what you can or can't do.

In Warring Suns, there will be a handicap system so you can change the total tonnage per team by + or - 100%. Player A can have normal tonnage and Player B could have up to twice the tonnage. This actually goes both ways. One team might have 100t while team 2 has 200t. That would make it interesting for newbies and oldies.

Karacan, I just wanted to thank you for being such a bad influence :)

When I started playing MechWarrior 10 yrs ago I only played games with other people using experience teams and I had forgotten how much more fun it is (now, if we can only figure out how to hit the broadside of a barn) :) We used to play against "elite" AI using only our 6 best pilots each (talk about being scared in a game) so your idea of having 2 human teams against the AI one or 2 levels up has made ToS feel even more like "home" to me. When we spend so much of our time dueling the competition can get in the way of friendship and partnering with someone else is a great way to restore those bonds.

Please, increase your armor. You make poor cannonfodder.

After all the duels and team vs team Games Saturday I had a ball doing a teams vs AI also, It's a complete "blast" when you have 2 teams that compliment each other when it comes to weaknesses and strengths.

"Blast"? As in: "Run, I'm going to blow up on him!" ? ;D

Okay, Hetz, you might be right. I am too used to teaming with the AI not to use a partner as cannonfodder. Sorry. :)
