Why does my game switch automtically to quick combat during a battle (i got the funtion disabled on options)

you have to have at least a minimum amount of troops involved in a battle to be able to choose detailed battle, something like 30,000-40,000 or so.
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?
