Adv Mitsubishi/Nakajima engines

Post by Rybeck »

In CHS, when I hit 'i' to see aircraft replacements, I see that Jack uses Nissan and George uses Toyoda engines.

When I hit 'D' to access the main aircraft database, Jack uses Adv Mit and George uses Adv Nak engines.

Does Nissan = Adv Mit and Toyoda = Adv Nak then?

ah that is why i don't like CHS... it is not enough that we have complex IJ production, no...we have to make it more complex!

In a word, Yes [:D]

Lemur came up with the trick quite a while back to address the fact a Japanese player can build up a HUGE stock pile of 1941 engines in the early part of the game and use them to build 1945 planes.

For another interesting trick, check this link....

Lemurs Engine Mod - it can be done

Reg,

Ok, but I'm still a little confused. Japan starts with 2 factories in Kanazawa producing Adv Mit and Adv Nak engines. There seems to be NO way to switch to either Toyoda or Nissan.

Am I correct in assuming that Jacks and Georges use Adv Mit and Adv Nak then? And that the Toyoda or Nissan engines effectively do not exist in CHS regardless of what the 'i' screen says?

Also, it's now Feb 1942 in one of my games and I still have no adv Mit or Nak engines in the pool even though the respective factories are 0x100 and 0x80. When do they start coming online?

Thanks again!

The Adv Mit and Adv Nak engines occupy the Toyoda or Nissan engine slots so the latter are effectively removed from the game. No loss as there are no CHS aircraft that use them.

Correct.

If you are confident, you can follow my link above and remove all references to the Toyoda or Nissan engines. The reason for this is the engine names are embedded in the game executable file. CHS only updates the scenario data files and cannot alter everything the program displays (menus etc).
Also, it's now Feb 1942 in one of my games and I still have no adv Mit or Nak engines in the pool even though the respective factories are 0x100 and 0x80. When do they start coming online?

You will need to talk to Andrew Brown or Lemurs about this.

Ideally the advanced engines should only be available after a certain date but I am not sure if the game engine supports this. I think the best they could do was to split the engine pool into basic and advanced engines that aren't interchangeable. I believe it's up to the player to convert the factories taking into account that the advanced engines can only be used on aircraft that don't become available until the later half of the game.

Sorry I cannot help more.

Cheers,
Reg.

Ok, It really works! [:D]
Needs changing only in 2 places in executable...
Thanks Reg, thanks Lemur [&o]

You can check it in the database editor, but Adv. Mit start producing in 12/42 and Adv. Nak. start producing in 9/43.

Thanks ctangus. I'm using CHS and according to the aircraft replacement pools screen, the N1K1 George becomes available in August 1943.

If the Adv Nak only becomes available in Sep 1943, I suppose this means I won't be able to start producing Adv Nak engines a couple months earlier before the George itself is available for production?

Seems a little counterintuitive that the plane arrives one month earlier than the engine needed to propel it [;)] Unless I'm missing something here...

Exactly.
I made such a mistake, accelerating Georges but still having no engines to fit airframes... [:@]
Better concentrate on Franks [:D]
