Argunaut, Narwhal and Nautilus

Post by el cid again »

These three giant US submarines all had six inch guns

and all served as transports.

I had previously put in the Argonaut as a transport - but not quite properly. She - and the Narwhal class - should be transports even before removal of her mine tubes. Due to peculiarities of code, all will be rated at 98 tons capacity (except Argunaut converts to a slightly greater value later) - when it should be about 91 tons (this is as close as we can get the way code interprets data - enter 5 for capacity you get 98!!!) [6 - the next value we can enter - is about 110 tons after code 'translation' - so that is what Argunaut capacity increases to]

Many people may not know of these unique submarines - so this is notice.

Two of these boats were used to transport the Marine Raiders on the Makin island raid.

The boats need to be able to carry the number they really carried, IMHO..

Well - we don't get to control how code loads ships or submarines. I find it frustrating - after decades of calculating loadings - we can't do anything like reality in our game - with any kind of ship. It depends on what you try to load - but in the very crudest sense - the game is pretty close. If you load light infantry - you will get a fair bit on these vessels. Or you will now I have given them more than normal cargo capacity.
