League Question

Post by BigSmooth »

I thinking about creating a league with an odd number of teams. Does the scheduler account for that by giving a bye to a team each week until each team has X amount of games played or would I have to manipulate the schedule myself?

It should give a bye week.

Note that an odd number of teams must have a bye week each week.

If the teams do not match the schedule, then problems will arise. Seven teams with a seven weeks schedule is simple, but beyond that, it is a real pain to create schedules.

Note that real world leagues do their best not to have an odd number of teams.

Thanks. Yeah, I wonder why the NFL does not get rid of their bye weeks since they have an even number of teams. Oh yeah, billions of dollars might make them keep it in.[:D]

The CFL has an even number of teams but keeps its bye weeks. This past weekend no Eastern team played. This coming weekend the Western teams get the break.

The reason is more to give teams a chance to heal players more than anything else. The CFL season is long and a break is required.

Other sports, such as baseball and hockey have breaks in the season too.. they just happen to call them 'All Star Weekends'.

The NFL started the bye week prior to having an odd number of teams.  They did it to extend the season by one week and gain more revenue in doing so.

Note that the NFL now has multiple bye weeks in the middle of the season, but they don't have a bye week each week.  When they had 31 teams, they had to have bye weeks each week.

The NFL is looking at going to 17 games with one bye and one game played outside of the United States.  I don't like that at all, but I don't have a say in it.

A little off topic but...My satellite provider carries Worldsport in HD and I've been getting into the live CFL games they run on Friday nights.
