Albert Pujols snapped a 4-4 tie with a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th, as St. Louis bested Atlanta 7-4. Before the game, the Braves activated John Thomson and sent him to the mound. He fared well, pitching 6 innings and allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, but the bullpen trio of Kevin Barry, Chuck James, and Chad Paronto could not avoid a

Scott Rolen's 10th-inning homer off Ken Ray gave the Cardinals a 4-3 win over the Braves. Another furstrating extra-inning loss for the Bravos.

The Reds capitalized on a Chipper Jones error, plating 3 unearned runs in the top of the 7th to post a 7-4 win over the Braves, Atlanta's 3rd straight loss.

Once again, the Reds broke open a tie game, this time with 3 runs in the 8th, then held on to defeat the Braves 4-2. The loss drops the Braves back to the .500 mark, at 44-44.

Horacio Ramirez, Chad Paronto, and Ken Ray combined to shut out Cincinnati, allowing only two hits, all singles. For Ramirez, this was the second game in a row in which he allowed no runs. Over a 3-game stretch, he has now recorded 15 consecutive scoreless innings.

Austin Kearns and Adam Dunn each had 3 hits, including homers, and drove in 3 runs as the Reds took 3 of 4 from the Braves, winning the final game before the All-Star Break by the score of 8-5. The Braves limp into the break with a 45-45 record. They will start a 10-game road trip after the break, with stops in San Diego, St. Louis, and Philadelphia.

Despite their recent woes, the Braves are only 2 1/2 games out of the wild card.

Jake Peavy and company shut down the Braves' bats, as San Diego took the opener of a 3-game series, 3-1. Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Eric Young added a solo blast for the Padres.

Tim Hudson, Chad Paronto, and Ken Ray shut out the Padres on 6 hits and the Braves got back to the .500 mark with a 1-0 win. The game's only run was scored in the 6th inning. With 2 out, Edgar Renteria doubled. Chipper Jones followed with an RBI single.

The Braves won the series from Western Division-leading San Diego with a 3-1 victory in 11 innings. Jeff Francoeur singled in a run and pinch-hitter Pete Orr followed with a sacrifice fly.

Cabrera is doing well, but Ramirez is performing far short of his expectations... or at least my expectations of him!

Thanks again and keep up the great reporting! Though I utterly despise the Braves, I give credit where credit is due-- you sir, are doing a GREAT job!

Chuck James replaced injured John Thomson and earned his first victory. James went 5 1/3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks, but only 1 run. The Braves turned 4 double plays.

Adam LaRoche hit his 19th home run and Todd Pratt added a 3-run shot, his first of the season, as the Braves downed the Cardinals 7-1. John Smoltz pitched 6 scoreless innings. Jason Shiell, making his Braves debut, walked four men in the 9th (one intentional) and allowed the only run. After an off-day on Thursday, Atlanta winds up the road trip with three games in Philadelphia, before coming home on Tuesday to face the Marlins.
