Not surprisingly, there's a similar thread to be found here: http://www.ageod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3608
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I torment eager potential customers by not sharing screenshots of "Brother Against Brother." Everyone has a talent.

The thread you point out is infomative. However, proving that you can't please everyone, there is a poster in said thread who actually complains that he is put off by the length of the FOF manual.

No, pleasing everyone is impossible, that's for sure. The thing is, the FOF manual is quite long, but one doesn't need to read it all. As you guys all know, the main reason it's so long is the section on detailed battle. But if people want FOF to be just a strategic game, the manual is instantly cut in half. Essentially, it's only as long as the settings one plays at are advanced.

I thought that thread was pretty useful, and glad to see that in general it preaches the philosophy of owning both games, so I felt it would be fine to link to it.

I personally like the map better in AACW as I can zoom in and out, BUT, like you said the places are not labeled well.

I played AACW a bit and enjoyed the zoom feature. When I returned to FOF, I was in the habit of turning that mouse wheel, and found that the FOF map zooms also. I had always felt I was too "up close" and needed to see a slightly larger area to make plans, and now I can!

Every time I have rotated my mouse wheel the map moves north and south, not in and out. [&:]

I just went back into FOF and tried again and it does not zoom for me. I changed my mouse roller button just now from Scroll to Resize. I will try again now. Be back soon...

Nope, no zoom. I wonder why it works for you?! I really would like that option. I also always feel like the map is too close to me and need to zoom out some.

It doesn't zoom for me - no idea how he's accomplishing that.

I posted this question in another section, guess I should have waited. Sorry.

We will have to wait for GQ to come back and enlighten us as to how this magical feat is accomplished. [&:]

My guess: the secret is that as you scroll the wheel, you should also move your face either towards or away from your monitor. [;)]

Very good !

I think your method might even work without the scrolling. You might get the same effect by moving your face back and forth and simultaneously manipulating your mouse.

It only appeared to zoom out a little. I went back and checked and saw that it was an optical illusion, encouraged by my expecting it to zoom out. I don't know if it will affect anyone else this way, but if you scroll from Virginia slightly upward so the Penn border comes in view, it gives me the sense of a slight zoom-out. Eric says only the minimap zooms. I guess this has to go on the Wish List.

Dang it, my hopes were high in thinking you found a way to do it. Oh well. This is a good one for the wish list.

The only website to rate both games specifically in terms of sound, gamershall.de, gave them the same ratings in the Sound (7/10) and Atmosphere (9/10) categories.

FOF uses a good number of Civil War-period songs performed by the 5th Michigan Regiment Band. (Go here to learn more about them: www.mi5th.org ) AACW uses a similar reenactment band, from North or South Carolina, as I recall.

For FOF's tactical battles, in addition to using multiple sound effects for gunshots and other sounds of battle, we hired professional actors -- one of whom had a small part in "Full Metal Jacket" -- to speak and shout dozens of authentic combat expressions and quotes.

I'll let the players opine on whether they have preferences; these are the basic facts of the case.

Me too. Some B.B. King, Allman Brothers, and a bit of bluegrass sure does help with the thinkin'.Hmmm...look at all that beautiful southern music. Country, Jazz, Southern Black Gospel, Blues, Rock-a-billy, Bluegrass, Zydeco, Southern Rock, Tex-mex, Dixieland Jazz.....

Well you guys do have polka and rap. [:)]

Love the Zydeco. Somethin' bout the accordion and washboard together that just takes the blues away. On my way to Louisiana soon to get my fill of Cajun food, swamp fishin and zydeco. Can you say crawfish boil? MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Redneck meets Coonass.
