Yet another MCNA oddity - 17-lb guns in 1941?

Post by Yogi Yohan »

In the One Last Try scenario of MCNA my forces are being fired upon by 17-pounder AT guns. This would be about 2 years before they came into service. Unless there were prototypes of this gun tested in Tobruk (but I doubt there were even prototype 17-pounders at this time), something's clearly wrong here.

I'd very much like to check that for you Yogi. They really should not be there. Do you remember in which battle you saw them?

I'm not 100% certain, but I think it was "no option", I choose that for most battles.

Maybe if I knew what options were available, I'd remember.

There were no Italian forces present and Rommel came to pay a visit.

It wasn't one of the 17 lb howitzers, was it?

No, definitely 17 lb AT-guns. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a 17-lb howitzer. Don't you mean 18-lb howitzers?

I'll take a look

One last try...Okay, I'll take a look Yogi, and see what is going on here. THanks for the update..17 pounders would be deadly against Mk. IIs and IIIs, for sure!

I Can't Find them

Post by Wild Bill »

I looked Yogi, and cannot find them in my files. I see a lot of 2 Pounders, 18 and 25 Pounders, but no 17 Lb AT gun. I'm sending you a graphic of the OOB for the British in "A Last Try."

They are just not there for me.

Hi WB,
I've been following this thread with interest, since I think I am close to the same place as yogi, but anyway, I went and check my scen313.dat file (WAWEd) and ALSO found the 2 17lbers in there (units J0 and J1).

I can email you the file if you like.

I could have missed them. J0 - J!...Looking now

J0 and J1 in my game are 25 Pdr Howitzers. This is puzzling indeed.

Problematic Download

Post by Wild Bill »

I downloaded your file, Big T, but for some reason it removed key files from my Windows File Manager after I tried to use the file.

I would recommend that no one else try to download this until we find out what the problem is. Thanks anyway, Big T.

Yogi, send me a jpg file with these 17 pdrs highlighted on the map. That would help me a lot.

Whoa! Dunno how that happened WB!?! Sorry about any trouble it caused you. I'm certain that my computer is virus free, (but i'm checking now anyway).

One thing I was wondering was if we could individually change the 17lbrs to 25's using WAWEd, I'm hesitant to change it since it's part of the MEGA camp

FWIW, my MCNA scen313.dat file also shows two 17 lb AT guns. File is 209 KB, dated 4/18/01 at 11:01 PM.

It is evident that we have two scenarios in circulation. On reviewing my records after the computer virus disaster, it appears that the original scenario did include 2 17 pounders, an error on the part of the designer.

We caught this and replaced them with two 25 pounder guns. Somehow, and I have no idea how, the original got into the final MCNA copy instead of the revised one.

It is the only answer to this dilemma. That being the case, the only thing we can do is to offer the revised scenario in a new patch for MCNA players who have not yet reached this point.

I apologize for this happening. And I do appreciate the keen eye of you gamers in discovering this. I see that you live by the adage, "Know your enemy!"

Talk about poor timing: It wasn't until last night that I realized this thread pertained to the very scenario I was playing. Then, suddently, I found myself under fire by a 17lb ATG. Yikes! Fortunately I had smoked the area pretty well, and lost only a halftrack before I took the gun out; but I am now wondering where the other one is!
