How does naval endurance work ?

Post by hjaco »

Finally after having played the parch since release i noticed that naval units have an endurance factor after being tired of my ships sailing home all the time [8|] Hope some one can help me out with some of the following:

1) I can figure out by tests that this is the factor which determines how many turns that naval unit can be at sea before having to return to base. Is that assumption correct ?

2) Does crossing several sea areas, specific sea zones, enemy control or contested control of sea areas, specific mission types influence endurance or is that made on random ?

3) With the patch it is without cost of naval asset points to choose return missions ?

4) If ships is at sea the manual states it will cost an additional naval asset point. Is that pr. turn ?

5) So when a naval unit is down to 1 in endurance in a strategy phase it will automatically be back in port the next strategy phase (if not sunk) ?

6) That means you have to send out additional transports for shipping purposes the turn your transports are down to 1 endurance in order to not miss any trade ?

thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

1. Yes
2. Endurance = Time, doesn't matter how many sea zones you cross etc.
3. Yes
4. The manual is wrong (refers to an old rule no longer in the game), there's no additional cost.
5. When it gets to 0 the naval unit will auto-select a return to port mission.
6. Yes, if you substitute "0" for "1"

I was just about to post a very similar post patch experience.

Instead I'll concentrate one one oddity with german transports. I tried to rebase 2 to rostok and they have been stuck on 'return' (in a contested north sea) since sept 14 (its now mid 1915 iirc). Also the endurance of ships that have already been at sea does not seem to rise again. Is this a % chance or should they auto-refuel when back in port ? and does the exact port matter ?

I'll load up the game later and post more detail when i get the chance.

Gret game BTW Frank ! Kudos

I can confirm the rebase of transport issue.

Happened to me in my last PBEM game as well. After trying a couple of times i just used the old direct shipping order which worked.

If i recall correct choosing rebase order for transports in Wilhelmshaven got the transports to be in the North Sea on a return order for a turn or two after which they were back at Wilhelmshaven [:(]

I think you just have to assign a new mission and a new endurance factor will automatically be assigned.

They shouldn't scuttle unless they have no port to return to.  Do you still have a save?

5. When it gets to 0 the naval unit will auto-select a return to port missio

This seems not to be the case for me. My naval units regardless of mission type instantaneously goes back to port after a strategy phase where endurance is down to 1. Furthermore that means lack of control of sea areas because the effects are implemented instantaneously and loss of shipping/amphibious capability [:(]

A correction: The ships will next turn be on a "return" mission which means i actually am being punished in two strategy phases in a row because i can not alter these orders.
