UV Tutrorial and manual
Can anyone that has an advanced copy tell me if it includes a good manual and a decent tutorial.
I would like to buy this game, but being as I am a total noob when it comes to the pacific war, and the game looks in depth, is there plenty of helpful tutorials included with the game?

Hey Eberbach-
I'm not a beta tester or Matrix staff, but I do know that there is no printed manual included in the game. While some (myself included) like to cuddle up with our manuals at night and read, the cost was prohibitive. The solution is a manual, which is said to be very in depth, in .pdf format. I'm going to go to work and print the sucker up... hehe, don't tell anyone.
As for tutorials, I've heard some mention of them by Matrix types, but I don't recall any specifics. I'm sure they'll be ok...
Also, this forum, the Pacwar forum, and also the WITP forum are all good places to ask around about the Pacific theater. Everyone here has some expertise, so you're bound to get a couple good answers to any questions you have.

There is a walk through tutorial provided in the manual. The tutorial was one of the last things we went over and updated before we went gold. We also included a quick action scenario that allows you to get right into the combat. This scenario is a non-historical one but will get you into the heat of battle.
Let me also say that the OOB and the tutorials were done by Rich Dionne and he has done a great job. I am currently reading "The Pacific Campaign" by Dan van der vat and it really gives you a good oversight of the whole war.

The manual is very use friendly...easy to find things, hyperlinks to jump around. Also has tons of information.

Speaking of the manual, now that UV has gone Gold can Matrix post the pdf file for download? I've preordered from C&B and would love to start reading now while waiting for the postman to deliver.

Marc,
Can you explain the thinking behind this for me? I don't deny Matrix has every right to not release the manual separately from the game, but why not? Wouldn't releasing it have sort of the same effect as releasing a demo version of the game? You know, let people learn about the game and its capabilities, rules, order of play, see additional screen shots, etc. Wouldn't that help create demand and drive additional sales?
Just trying to understand.....

I didn't mention those points earlier but I agree with WW2'er. If you had a printed manual then I could see not posting it. With a pdf if someone pirates the CD they've already got the manual anyway. Seems like you'd generate more interest in the game posting it for people to read than not. Just my $.02.

Hi Guys
I try to answer this myself. Everyone is thinking only about downloading the manual. There are a lot of costs involved in that. The most part is the bandwidth and the truth is we can not afford to take on this cost. The manual is over 5 megs and the cost would of course be large.
Trust us guys we are not trying to hold you back but we must make the right choices. Everyone part a lot of effort in this manual to make it one of the best designed PDF manuals to date.
Enjoy the AAR and we get these games out as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for the reply, David. That does make sense, of course. I figured you guys had a good reason.
(Sigh) I'll just have to wait for the whole thing!
