I haven't picked up the game as of et, but I do have a question: just what would have to happen in-game from the British to have a shot at losing Gibraltar? Would it be a deadly blow to Allied chances, for would it require the situation to have deteriorated so badly that the loss would scarcely matter?

I'm not sure it would be possible without Spain joining the war on the side of the Axis (which would make Gibraltar indefensible by land). But assuming you can't convince Franco to get on your side, what CAN the axis do to take the base? And would the effort be worth the trouble?

Invade Spain. Getting the Italian fleet into the Atlantic can be a fairly powerful weapon against the convoys, but the usual method is to capture Egypt and go around the African loop

Spain/Gibraltar is a good gambit in this game as their is currently no political negative to taking Spain.

Eqypt is a good option for the oil gambit but not so good for the fleet SMK. A good Allied player will sit about 4 ships right off the transfer hexes and you are toast coming around.

True - but if he's got so many ships there then they aren't somewhere else.......and you should have a U-boat or 2 scouting the lower convoy route arrival areas and know about it, then concentrate a few subs and sink the RN....options, counters, information.....

It is so time consuming to take the oil by going through Africa I am not sure it is worthwhile. Personnnally I just take Port Said and then pull all the Italians to go kill Russians.

I have also sent the Italian navy to the Atlantic but they have never been a real threat. They go they run up to France they die. So now I send the UBoat and keep the remainder in the med. They do nothing but at least they dont die.

Also means I no longer place points into Italian Navy I used to do that all the tme but at there best they are no match for a British vessel so I no longer waste the tech. I now put them in Infantry for Russia. Not historical but then nothing else is so it works.

Dont see invading Spain as worthwhile. Havent done it cus it takes too long when you could be deep into Russia instead and since if you invade in Jan41 there is no weather it makes it twice as easy. That full year verses weather in 6 months keeps the Axis golden.

Games are very predictible as I see them verses my opponents. You kill Poland. Invade Demark. Then Netherlands and on to Belgium and finish up good ole France. This will be done between Mar 40 and Sep 40 depending on British intrusion. Then it is off to Russia takes awhile to walk that far so you arrive late 40 early 41. Depending on when you get a tech one arrives about then you wait a month or just invade good ole Russia. Head to Perm do not pass go do collect your pass to the win. Since there are no historical bais in the game no reason to follow any historical ideology. So we could call the game objective Perm.

The real race I see is the Allies land in France in 42 as quickly as the American boats can get there and it is a race to see if the allies can get to Berlin before you get to Perm. Usually it is close. But if you keep you eye on the ball (Perm) you should make it in time.
Jim

Cant we just get along.
Hell no I want to kill something!
