Fragmented Squadron?

Post by engineer »

I had an odd event recently. A US air group was on Yap softening up Palua with Port Attacks. There was enough of aviation support, but an AV was providing the incremental aviation support to keep from having some unsupported planes. The air group was attached to SW Pacific command. The SW Pacific HQ was split between Townsend and Ulithi since I didn't provide enough transport to move the HQ up in one trip. During the attacks on Palua planes were being shot down, but then the planes started re-appearing at Cairns - just up the coast from the rump SW Pacific HQ in Oz! Then the bomb group on Yap started dissolving and re-appearing in Cairns.

I don't understand what's going on.

That happened because there was not enough aviation support (and supply?) on Yap. It happens in the very beginning of the game when IJN bombards Guam and Pearl Harbor receives replacement V7s. I don't know of a way to merge these squads. I always use fragments like that to max out carrier complements.

Thanks, I had the aviation support but I was short on supply at the time.  I managed to recombine the squadrons by physically transporting the fragment back to Yap after it was well stocked with supply and aviation support and the air units merged back together automatically.
