Turn 10:

With the exception of a few stragglers, the Germans complete their mopping up of British troops south of the river and plan for the next stage of their attack.

5th and 6th Company are also successful in destroying or driving off all British troops near the Church.

The Plan: (Phase 2)

Turn 11:

With all armored and AA Gun threats eliminated in the West Farleigh sector, the 88mm FlaK guns embark on their transports and move east to assist the Germans in the East Farleigh area.

3rd Company and the Panzer IIIFs clear the last of the British troops on the south side of the river near West Farleigh, and prepare to cross and advance on Teston.
However, several British units guard the approach along the northern bank of the river.
Artillery strikes are ordered on the defenders.

1st Company and 18th Recon also clear the south side of the river near East Farleigh, and prepare to cross.
A Panzer IV is lost to an ambushing pair of A13s, but the remaining Panzers exact revenge for their lost comrade and blast the British tanks to scrap metal before they can reload.

5th and 6th Company can finally claim total victory over the British on the German's eastern flank though not without some sacrifice. A total of 10SPs of German troops are recorded as casualties.
However, British losses are horrific: 24 Commando, 4 Engineer, and 6 Rifle Platoon SPs are put out of action. The leader of the Commandos is also counted among the dead.
Several powerful 3.7-inch AA batteries protecting Maidstone prevent a further German advance.
So, II Battalion will now fall back towards Loose, where several rogue British units appear to be heading.

Turn 12:

The British units defending the approach to Teston come under murderous artillery and small-arms fire, taking heavy casualties.
The Panzer IIIFs dash across the bridge and earn bragging rights as the first units to cross the River Medway.

Shortly thereafter, units of the 18th Recon and 1st Company also cross the river near East Farleigh and proceed north, pushing the ever-decreasing British defenders back.

British resistance is rapidly deteriorating across the entire front.

Turn 13:

The Germans gain more ground on their way to establishing the bridgeheads.

While the Panzer IIIFs force the British back from the riverbank, 3rd Company crosses the bridge under cover of a smokescreen and prepares to scale the muddy bank.
German HMGs near West Farleigh provide suppressive fire.

Elements of 18th Recon, 1st Company, and the Panzer IVs also cross the river near East Farleigh and gain ground.

A large band of British Rifle units have been spotted heading for the German-occupied town of Loose. II Battalion is in a position to intercept.

Turn 14:

The Panzer IIIFs and 3rd Company approach Teston, but are greeted by fierce resistance from British HQ units that have been pressed into emergency service. Artillery strikes wipe out several enemy Battalion HQs, but not before two Panzer IIIFs are lost.
Teston itself is guarded by a Regimental HQ, two Mark VIs, and a half-strength Engineer Platoon.
Despite the initial shock of this spirited ad-hoc defense, the Germans quickly recover and expect to capture the strategic village soon.

18th Recon comes within sight of their objective, and engage the British defenders of the small, unnamed village that they are assigned to capture.
The British take losses, and this village is expected to fall soon as well.

5th and 6th Company intercept the British Rifle Platoons that are driving on Loose, and engage from range.
They will proceed to take up positions north of Loose and ambush the British forces.

Turn 15:

As expected, 3rd Company and 18th Recon capture their objectives, though not without loss.

The assault on Teston costs the Germans another Panzer IIIF, while 18th Recon suffers from a wicked artillery bombardment that kills several SPs of their Rifle troops.
One platoon occupies the objective after forcing the British out, but it is a tenuous hold at best. The German occupiers are surrounded by British troops on three sides.

Panzer IVs lead the charge on the last objective; the village of East Barming.
1st Company follows the panzers, but comes under fire from the small garrison defending the village.
I Platoon takes a 1SP loss, and the German troops pull back a bit for fear of more casualties.

Turn 16:

3rd Company repels the remaining British away from Teston and settles in to defend their conquest.

18th Recon somehow holds onto their objective, although the occupying platoon comes under heavy British fire and loses 1SP.

As the Panzer IVs approach East Barming, they are ambushed by a pair of A13 tanks and a British Rifle Platoon. The panzers luckily escape damage but are unable to inflict losses onto the British.

Turn 17:

The Panzer IVs manage to disable the A13s, but lose one of their own in the ensuing armor duel.
Elements of 1st Company and 18th Recon close in to assist the panzers with the capture of East Barming.

Meanwhile, further east, II. Battalion manages to stop the British advance on Loose with a lethal combination of small-arms fire and 75mm artillery shells.

Turn 18:

With one of the Panzer IV units providing suppressive fire, the other German tanks and two platoons of Motorcycle troops roar into East Barming and quickly force the out-numbered and out-gunned defenders to surrender.

However, to the northeast, the German Rifle Platoon that was holding the small strategic village comes under intense fire and is left disrupted. A small British unit then kicks the dazed German occupying force out and reclaims the area for Britain.

The Panzer IVs are enroute to assist in the recapture.

Turn 19:

The Panzer IVs arrive and immediately begin shelling British units still desperately defendinging the area.

The Germans consider the few British units that remain in the area to be weak and demoralised. 18th Recon troops coordinate an attack with the Panzer IVs to retake the village.

Turn 20:

The beaten and downtrodden British opt to abandon the contested village to the Germans and pull back.

Panzer IVs roll forward and reclaim the prize.

The rest of the German forces stand down and assume a defensive posture as the operation comes to an end.

With the Talonsoft version I managed about four battles before I was sent to a POW camp. Maybe you are that good.

I'll try again with JTCS.

Nah, I think it's because I'm writing this AAR while playing it.....makes me more careful.

That and the fact that any auxiliary forces that happen to fall under my command instantly become "point men" or "cannon fodder".[:D]

It's all about the I. Battalion.

Scenario 8 - July 18, 1940

Post by TAIL GUNNER »

High Command has formulated a plan to isolate Maidstone, but for the plan to succeed, the Oaken Wood to the west of Maidstone must be cleared of British forces and secured.

The same auxiliary forces as yesterday will assist I. Battalion, although many have been reduced in strength from the previous operation.

5th Company is assigned security detail in the rear.

The Luftwaffe is grounded because of rain.

The Plan:

Turn 1:

The last two remaining Panzer IIIFs assigned to I. Battalion's sector start the advance but come under fire from a fresh 40mm AA battery stationed in the pillbox complex near Livesey Street. As the rest of I. Battalion's troops clamor to get out of sight of these deadly weapons, a two-gun battery of 88mm FlaK guns embarks to move north and will attempt to destroy the British threat once and for all.

Farther east, 18th Recon and the Panzer IVs come under murderous fire from multiple British positions as their advance begins.
A Panzer IV is lost in exchange for a British A13 as well as 1SP of troops become casualties for each side.
All German artillery assets will be focused on this sector for now.

Turn 2:

The cursed 40mm AA battery continues to target the hapless Panzer IIIs, and successfully destroys one of the German tanks. An armored car is also lost in the area.
The second 88mm FlaK battery loads up and heads west to assist.
2nd Company hides behind a bluff, waiting for their chance to assault the British stronghold.

1st and 3rd Company cautiously enter the Oaken Wood.

Further east, 18th Recon and the Panzer IVs enjoy some success as they find a weak spot on the British left flank and exploit it.
18th Recon's Motorized Rifle troops kick the British out of several of their positions, destroying a handful of A13s and Mark VIs in the process.

However, several British positions on a hilltop behind the Asylum offer excellent fields of fire on the advancing Germans. A two-gun 3.7-inch AA battery and a full-strength HMG Platoon defending in a pillbox are identified and will be of great concern.

Turn 3:

1st and 3rd Company probe deeper into the Oaken Wood under cover of smokescreens and rapidly come under fire from an entrenched Rifle Platoon and several Matilda IIs which are blocking the German advance. Thankfully, several Engineer Platoons which have the weaponry to destroy these thick-skinned beasts have been assigned to I. Battalion from the 2nd Regiment.
The thick smoke masks the British counter-fire, but an enemy artillery shell kills 1SP from 1st Company, II Platoon.

In 18th Recon's sector, the Motorized Rifle troops suffer 3SPs lost to British small-arms fire and are forced to pull back. But before doing so, they are able to put the 3.7-inch AA battery out of action.
The Panzer IVs knock out several more enemy tanks and a British Major, but are unable to affect the well dug-in British troops which are entrenched in some orchards south of the Asylum.

On 18th Recon's left flank, 6th Company enters the fray and engages a lone A13 in the woods without success.
