What causes planes/pilots to recycle to pool?

Post by Feinder »

I recently lost USS Lexington (rest her soul, she did her duty). Her air-groups landed in Australia nearly intact (she had only lost about 5 total planes). Last turn, planes and pilots were in Oz as fragments. Cool, I'll fold them into my existing CV groups after the battle. I checked the respawn (reinforcement), the parents showed on reinforcement CV (good). All looks ok.

This turn however, most of the aircarft and pilots have vanished.

I checked, the planes -did- return to the pool. That's fine I suppose, altho I would rather have folded them into my existing squadrons. But at least the planes went back to the pools.

HOWEVER -

The pilots appearently have -not- returned to the pool. These were good (starting pilots), exp in the 80s and 90s. My pilot pool is NOT reflecting these pilots being recycled into the pool.

Where did they go? Not a game-stopper, but annoying none-the-less.

Game is CHS #156, current version of CHS and most recent WitP patch.

Last and current turn saves available.

I suspect they will show up on the Essex Lex. I have never gotten a game to the point where the Essex carriers are in so thats just a guess on my part.

In my game vs. Erstad, I had "several" USN CVs go down (*baleful look*).  Several of them are on the re-spawned list without air groups, even tho I had never taken the squadrons off, even during their death throws.  We'll have to wait and see for them, but I think they're just SOL (so yes Virginia, they will have USMC aircraft flying from them).

In my game vs. Bilbow, Lex went down a few days ago (battle is winding down now, I -think-).  She is on the reinforcement track (465 days to go!), with air groups, marked as parents, but with 0 aircraft.

The fragments of her squadrons diverted to PM, my CVs, and to Oz.  I was surprised at how many planes diverted, of her original 78 plane air group, there were about 70 aircraft that diverted.  I figured I'd fold these into my own CV airgroups, when I got back to port.  But when I checked last turn, I was concerned when suddenly most of my planes (and pilots were gone).  Went from about 70 aircraft, down to about 10.

I checked the pools from turn before (when they had just diverted, and there were 70 of them), and compared to the current pools.  The pools -did- jump substantially by the number of missing aircraft (at least the planes are being recycled).  But my pilot pools only shoed the 2 - 3 pilot increase from the monthly allotment.

I hope you're right YH, that my pilots have been sent to reinforcement Lexington.  I sure could use them now tho.  I suppose by the time reinforcement Lex comes along, it won't matter all that much (and I'll probably have not way to know if the pilots got recycled anyway).

Stay tuned for an update to my AAR.  I went against my own advice and engaged in a carrier duel in (only) March 1942...  [X(]
