Building forts

According to the rules you need 1,000 infantry, defense stance and 1,000 supply to build a fort, anyone know why this is unavailable in NYC. When I right click on army the build fort order is unavailable.

Is NY already fortified?
Are they regulars infantry I seem to recall that militia don't work as the infantry.

Nope do not have a fort there, I have infantry training there and put them on defense for a turn. Got Knox there with a battery of 24 cannons that he hauled down from Ticonderoga and Gray coming to town.
Sullivan's Training 1,000 infantry and rifleman in NYC and they are in the red. Gray's got over 2,000 regulars and will have a field day.
Knox training too... Jeez looks like the battle for NYC and Long Island all over again. Unless I move out, but with Knox and those cannons... Need some cover.

Maybe you have to begin the turn in defensive stance?
Are all 1000 infantry in the same army?

If you fight tactical battle then it's not such a big problem. You can use hill, trees and towns just as effectively as the fort.
If you fight in auto then you might have a problem. Then again fighting the Brits early in auto is usually a problem no matter where you are [;)]

Yep, started in defense, 1,000 under Sullivan. Stocked 1,930. 1,000 Suply a week. But I notice that NYC is 50/50 Loyality, hmm... Putman there too with 800 and 9 cannons & Knox with 300 milita and 24 cannons, so maybe I don't have enough suply for everyone. Lot of fun though. I know what you mean with tac. battles, the enemy can run out on offence.
