Processors

Post by afspret »

While looking at some of the new computers recently and noticed that a lot of them now come with an AMD processor instead of a Pentium one, so much for having a look on the market.

Now for the obvious question, will WitP (and other games for that matter) run on a PC with an AMD processor?

Dont know why not. If any windows application runs on them, WitP should do fine.

My old computer ran WitP on an AMD fine. It eventually blew up and I was told that if an AMD processor starts to overheat it just keeps going until it goes bang whereas a Pentium shuts down. Not sure if this is true but worth checking out before you commit yourself.

Ran fine on my old AMD Athlon 1.1ghz. No problems at all.

Have been using AMD for the last 8? years now without any complants.
If you go for a reasonable new model x4200-4600 64bit , it will cost you much less than a pentium of comparable performance.

If you go for the latest of the latest then pentiums are  just a fraction cheaper..

ps.

If you are a bit handy with pc's, buy one with an online store on ebay. They will charge you some shipping, but it will still cost you a couple hundred bucks LESS than retail...

I've been running AMD processors for over 10 years except a couple of laptops where I didn't have any choice.  The processors tend to be a better value.  They tend to be cheaper than comparable Intel processors and are very reliable.  I'm a programmer and have a lot of computers around here.  I've never had a compatability problem with an AMD processor and I've never had one fail.  My primary, general use machine runs 24/7 and has since 2001 with very few problems and none with the processor.

MHz for MHz, AMD will outperform the Intels.
