Any Turtledove fans?

Post by Warhorse »

I read a series many years ago about a lizard race with 1990's tech invading Earth in WW2. Some guy had made a mod for SPWW2 or WAW kind of like that also, but for Martians, liked that so much I decided to fiddle around with the CS awhile ago and apply it to this series. My aliens are called K'talans, and are 2007 tech invading in WW2. My weapons are all primarily modern Soviet materiel, slightly renamed for flavor. The mod has all graphics, unittxt, and pic files included, and some sound effects. This requires the JSGME program, and the Matrix edition of EF. The country slot is Belgium, Allied but will make one also for play as Axis, as this race is all for itself! I have to find a way to post it as it is 3.29 mb. I will let you all know if there's any intereest, I know it's silly, but I enjoy it, so there!! I would post a screenie, but size is too big...

Hey
I'm hard-fan of Turtledove :)
And well 2007 force is good too, because modern russian stuff is not so modern -> it can't be compared to current US stuff. So your mod is almost in Turtledove timeline I think.
Now we must wait for Mod for Turtledove's "American Empire" and great battles in Ohio etc. (because it won't be difficult, since Turtledove translated Barbarossa and Fall Blau fighting).

Heh, nice idea :-) Did you make any scenarios involving the alien race? Anyway, maybe you could post it via Rapidshare? (And what's JSGME?)

Well, I just made a very big battle, on a huge map, just to play around with it when I first did the mod, I could post that with it to tinker with![:D]

JSGME is a very easy to use modswapper program, so you don't have to worry about messing up your stock install of Campaign Series! The program is available here-http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html

At Elwro's suggestion I will try this rapidshare thing. Here goes! There is a file called Mod install with JSGME.txt, please read for directions!

Here's the link-http://rapidshare.com/files/54225480/K_talia.zip.html

Enjoy, let me know what you think.

Why yes there is.............right here[:D]

Warhorse, the idea of a CS style game based on Turtledove's "The WorldWar Saga" series is great, but......

What about his "Settling Accounts" series?

(For those that don't know this it is an account of WWII fought between the USA (North) and the CSA (South) along the basic lines of the Civil War. )

It would seem to me that this would lead itself much better to the CS game.

Any thoughts?

Hmm, intrigueing, never read that series, but all his works are great, will need to keep an eye out for it! Would start a bunch of U.S. maps, no?!

Yea,

Eastern half of US just to cover the basics, but you'd need a bit of Canada and Some of Texas to do it right.

Turtledove's Alt History actually starts with the single book "How Few Remain", and then goes to ""The Great War" (WWI in America - 3 books), followed by "American Empire" (between wars with the CSA as post-war Gemany- 3 books), and ends with "Settling Accounts" (WWII - 4 books). It's a lot of reading, but I consider it to be his best work.

I agree, I've read them all. Would make some great scenarios. Gotta love the Turtledove!

I was actually thinking the other day about why I greatly enjoy reading alternate history. I guess it's because I love history (my college major) but when you read history or historical fiction you already know pretty much how it ends. Not so with alternate history.
I'm trying to think, but nothing happens!

"Guns of the South", I think you're talking about. Great read,

One of the problems you might have in making a set of scenarios based on Turtledove's version of WWII ("Settleing Accounts") would be figuring out which armour to give to which side. It's hard to decipher from his discriptions. At first I thought he was talking German style armor for the South and Russian for the North, but after re-reading the last book in the series ("In at the Death"), I'm not so sure.
