question about troops experience

Post by figabo »

Hello,

I have just bought CS yesterday and i have a question :

is soldiers experience managed in the game ?
It seems for what i saw, that all troops are identical in term of experience
(no veteran or green units for instance).

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Not yet, no.

I am in the midst of adding new units that will deal with the experience issue. Expect to see them in the 1.03 or 1.04 update.

Edit: Keep in mind that units gain experience in Campaigns. I was focusing strictly on stand alone scenarios.

Hello Jason,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Happy to hear there will be an upgrade for stand alone scenarios about this.

In Campaign, where you see the experience gained by a unit ?
This concerns both dynamic and linked campaigns ?

Best regards

They will only affect new scenarios that use them, of course. But they will be available for use.

In the "Review Command" area, you can look over your forces in a campaign and see a numeric value for how much experience they have attained. After collecting so many experience points, their morale is increased.

The Japanese have 3 variable rifle platoons depending on their training/and equipment status.

P21201 Rifle Platoon (2nd line) late war home defense, rear area and garrison units.
P21202 Rifle Platoon (1st line) Line Divisions
P21203 Rifle Platoon (elite) for Parachute, later SNLF, armored Divisions

British, US, Germans and most other armies have a optimal standard rifle platoon but all units can be adjusted with the scenario editor to reflect a lesser status of morale or strength. Also many countries do have special elite platoon units in their Rangers, Commandos, Brandenburgers, Guards etc. They also have less than optimal troops in Homeguards, Volksgrenadiers, Volkssturm, Partisans, Workers, and Penal units.

Some other thoughts about experience.

Experience is a two way street. A string of bad combat experiences can turn a crack unit into a demoralized mob. Doing that to your enemy is the object of war generally. Not sure this game covers the time to refect this except in the LCG. This is a series of linked scenarios depending on the previous outcome. Wear on the troops strength and morale can be refected there by the LCG scenario designer in the editor.

You also have cost of the experience to reflect. An experiened unit gains that by becomeing weaker from casualties the unit has to loose to gain the experience. If it takes on green repacements that begins to degrade the experience advantage to the degree they have replacements.

Basicly you regard the standard platoon as the best they can get. If you want something more average you need to reduce the platoons strength or morale.

Does experience mean an entire separate new value? Or do experienced troops just have better attack /defense / assault values?
Personally I use morale level and highly rated leaders to simulate better troops.

I'm not very impressed with an experienced value. For example what we already see with German Fallschirmjäger is that the late war version has historical incorrect low values. IMO it's very subjective and may lead to more cliche appearences in scenarios.
For me it's a don't. Not an improvement to the game.

This is what I mean. Cliche and from historical point of view not true.
Sorry George it's not personal :)

Fortunately, their introduction will be very limited (additions of green and veteran - no elite, as noted above, they are already represented), and their use will be limited to those who create new scenarios with them. The stock units will remain the same for those who prefer them.

They are merely options. As a scenario designer, I enjoy having options.
