Pinch-Running Snafu

Post by motnahp »

Bottom of the 9th, down by one run. Leadoff batter Sal Bando walks and is replaced by pinch-runner Herb Washington. Gene Tenace doubles to left, with Washington advancing to 3rd. Tenace, the potential winning run, is replaced by pinch-runner Mike Norris (rookie pitcher just called up from AAA). We only score one run in the inning, so the game goes into extra innings.

As the team takes the field, I realize I need a new catcher, since Tenace is out of the game. I click on Ray Fosse to replace Norris in the lineup. I get the "flash" where it looks like a change is being made, so I exit out of the lineup screen. Back to the game screen now.....and Norris is STILL shown as catcher! I made a couple more attempts to replace him, to no avail. He ended up finishing up the game behind the plate and even came to bat twice (flyout & groundout, alas). I even tried pinch hitting for him when he came to bat. Not happening!

Surely, this a "squashable" bug. There's no way any player should be locked into a lineup and position during a game, when there are about a dozen players left on the bench.

This was my first experience using a pitcher as a pinch-runner. I'll not make that mistake again until this has been addressed.. In the meantime, what's one little ole game out of 162.[;)]

I wonder if it locked him because he's a pitcher, and hasn't faced a batter yet. The program might need an adjustment to distinguish between a pitcher coming in as a pitcher vs. one coming in as a runner or batter.

Not sure, but that's a good question. If I get involved in a blowout game soon, I'll try it with another pitcher and see what happens.

P.S.

Unfortunately, the blowout came too soon. Trailing 10-0 in the bottom of the 7th, I chose Blue Moon Odom as a pinch runner for Phil Garner, the second baseman. The same thing happened. I could not replace Odom with another fielder or batter. Just for the heck of it, I even tried replacing him with another pitcher. I couldn't do that either.

By the way, I'm running 1.67.
