I ran through all the research to see how many points of research were required to reach each level for each category in GoA.

I do not guarantee that I did not make a mistake or two, but I tried to be as methodical as possible.

Hope this helps folks in their games to determine how to best execute their strategies.

Great work Ray.

A couple of additional notes.

The arrow on the research screen depicts achieved progress in relation to total research possible. So when ASW 1 is reached the arrow is halfways across the screen. Note though that artillery begins at level "3" (depicted as 0) and goes to level 7.

The percentage depicts progress achieved compared to the total number of RP needed to max out that research category.

I am even more confused, I thought you allocated some reserch and then it was in itself not only some progress towards the end but also cumilative in that even if you did not add to it some additional would continue.. think groups of scientists.. so if I add two to plane research in the first two rounds, then nothing, no addvances will be made after the initial two rounds??

Well..

If you expend two research points on aircraft, you will reach level one.

You can consider a research point kinda like the HQ refit points.. they are all the stuff you need to push you forward one step.

But they are not like building research factories which continue providing a certain level of constant research.

Hope that makes things more clear.

Isn't the amount of progress per point randomized?

Near the top of this page? The white slightly JPEG distorted image of a table with numbers and some text in it?

By the time you get either manpower is likely to be in short supply but equipment plentiful, tanks can destroy entrenchements at all levels whereas assault troops do not, tanks aid every unit in the stack...assault troops do not - they are good themselves but do not help other units stacked with them (AFAIK), and to get assault troops you have to take corps out of the line for training.

there are good reasons for using tanks instead of assault troops - they're just a bit deeper than a lot of wargamers can delve!!

No tanks!

Actually, I research tanks because 'I WANT THEM'
and for no other reason.

I think alot of players make similar decisions.

A very handy reference table! Good work.
Tables like this should be in the rulebook. When mine arrives, I'll be glad (ordered the download +).

So based on Frank's response about randomization, then the table would represent an average expenditure needed to reach the next level, and you should not always expect to achieve the next level by spending exactly the amount shown in the chart.  Is that right?  Even so, the table is a great contribution and I greatly appreciate it.

Indeed...

Also, it was done solely from the TE side, so the results may be a bit different when played from the CP side.

Research is the same from both sides.  And yes, it should be considered an average.
