Vista problem with 1.03 Beta Patch

Post by GenMetaxas »

I have Vista and in order to play the game version 1.02 I had to use the run as administrator option.
When I installed the 1.03 Beta version this option no longer works and the game never loads after clicking on Play.
I tried the quick launch file as admin and had the same problem.

Any suggestions?

At this point I will reinstall the 1.02 although I don't understand why a change in the patch would cause the new problem.

Has anyone with Vista successfully installed the 1.03 Beta?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Exact same problem here. Tried the 1.03 patch running Vista and it will not start. Tried going back to the previous patch with no luck. Looks like I may have to re-install the whole deal.

I tried to re-install and still no luck.
I will try to re-install in a new directory and see if that works.
Very weird.

Let me know if you have any success.

Hopefully this will Help after allot of testing.

Version 1.03 is not Vista friendly
When you run the uninstall it doesn't remove everything and you cannot delete the files (you get a message they are in use).
Since I am not a techie I rebooted and then manually deleted the files.
At this point you still have to rename the directory when you re-install.
I am not sure why but if you choose the default destination, despite having deleted all the files and directories you are not able to run the game?

So if you installed v1.03 beta and are having problems with Vista
Run Uninstall
Re-boot
Delete Residual Files
Run Install V1
Choose New path as destination
Install V1.02
Run shortcut as Admin
Play

Hopefully, somebody with more expertise can shed some light.

I deleted everything, including the original directory, re-booted, reinstalled and am playing again, version 1.02 though, but playing. They'll get it figured out pretty quick. [8D]

The 1.03 update installer seems to be working fine for us on Windows XP. Vista is a different story, but we've had trouble getting 1.00 to work on our Vista test machine, which is why it's not listed as a supported OS. I'd like to hear any more details you may have regarding XP though, since we cannot duplicate the issues reported here (yet).

Ok I resolved the problem unintalling and reinstalling the game then applying patch 1.02 and its hotfix and afterwards 1.03 (have XP)
When I got the error in the image I had not applied hotfix patch 1.02
It's all I can tell, hope its useful.
Bty does patch 1.03 comprehend the fixes in 1.02? Can it be applied directly?

1.02 is rock-solid on my machine which has Vista Home Premium. I hope this means you're not giving up on it.

XP ISSUES

Post by Magpius »

  • The installer installed all files without any problem.
  • The autorun front screen appears as before when desktop shortcut is engaged.
  • Game does not run.
  • The commander.exe file initiates on the hard disk... then just disappears.
    I am running windows XP.
Game is 90% solid under 1.02 (although it has white-screen frozen on occassion. Does not appear to always like full hardware acceleration on the video card. but that's another thread I guess).

XP ISSUES

Post by Magpius »

What is the latest, at rectifying the issues with 1.03 patch and XP?
I realise the patch is still beta, but there seems to be little feedback, and it would be nice to hear something...
I have also updated Java runtime environment, to see if that was an issue, still no success.
The laptop is only 2 years old, (Dell Precision M70), so memory and processor speed is not the problem here. (as 1.02 worked fine).
As I've said before, it gets to around the 64MB point of the program then disappears...[&:][&:][&:]

We think we finally found and fixed the XP issue with the beta installer. It only seemed to happen if you followed a specific installation pattern as far as the previous installers. I hope we'll have the fixed installer posted in the Members Club tonight.
