Smolensk still keeping the german horde at bay. Reinforcements are plugging the gaps that Larry has made. Horrendus losses for me. Depending how the winds blow, my position at Smolensk can collapse in a turn or so. South still very strong and no worries on that end. The weak link has been in the north (objectives actually higher then the 1 point smolensk)---have relied on terrain and blown bridges to keep Larry from outpacing me there with only a few light screening units. Reinforcements on turn 18 have finally showed up in that locale so I'll see what I can come up with there to try & divert the germans from their main thrust on Smolensk.

Game showing draw for both sides now--and only will get worse for the ruskies.

At turn 22 now. The strongpoint in the south at Kirkov is finally falling & larry's close to encirclling my armies there--gonna try to get a few units out & fall back to Roslaval. Timely reinforcements have enabled me to plug the gaps made in my lines at Smolensk. Larry is forcing me to keep spreading out my "defensive dogpile" there so Smolensk isn't enveloped.
Coming up on turn 23 & Smolensk is ready to crumble anytime now. The only reason I have been able to hang on this long there (I believe) is from my earlier blowing of every bridge on the map west of smolensk--Larry's forces have not been supplied & strong enough (yet) to break through. I was able to take back Bilyi back in the north & am showing marginal victory right now --though that won't last long.

Try to have some screenies after the next turn or so.

End of turn 23--Kirkov in the south is about completley encircled & w/units there mostly in reorg or routed-doesn't look like I will be able to get any out. Waited to long but in the process have held up larry timewise substantially.

Below shows the current situation at Smolensk--though the city pocket is still strong in itself the flanks are getting ready to break. A lot of Larry's guys seem to be at the end of their rope thereselves though.

Draw

Post by B/snafu »

Well Game ended at Axis turn 29 with a draw.

I Wasn't able top get any screenies of the last few times & I'm not as profecient as Larry with making the movies. Kirkov had fallen but I was able to shift the line back to Roslav in the south, and Larry took Bilyi in the north but was never able to breach anywher near Smolensk. At end --soviet line ran from Rzhev in north, bulge around smolensk, to Roslav in the south. IMHO I think the key for the soviets in this scenario is a massive bridge blowing campaign as you retreat. Due to that, I believe Larry's germans were never able to fully resupply or replenish to have the strength to break the line.

Both players have opted to go on to other things right now-so probabably won't be continuing this installment at this time. Just wanted to thank Larry for breaking me in to the pbem side of TOAW and I enjoyed the scenarios.
