Music

Oh, am I embarrassed. How do I get the music to play? I've been playing this beauty for months now, and I have yet to do it with the proper accompaniment.

Oh! Ha ha. My sides.

Seriously, I have never heard the music in this game. Do you have to have either of the disks in? I have always had music:on in the preferences, but have never--never--heard anything. I for one think that's strange.

I have an updated system, and I have always heard the sound effects. Just no music.

Anyone?

Weird. Go and check the "Preferences" screen to make sure that music is toggled on. You most definitely should be hearing it, unless it's been turned off.

Any chance that your machine has low memory, and music is turned off for that reason?

Speaking of the music, I was happily suprised to see that a close friend of mine is in the band that performs the actual music in the game. He was himself suprised to find out, but remembered a discussion "a year or so back" in the band about someone asking for permission to use their music in a computer game

See the bands web page here

Gil, it has always been checked on in preferences. As for the memory, my machine has 3 GB RAM (3.3 Ghz chip), so it can't be that.

Very mysterious. Everything else with the game works fine (including, as I've mentioned, the sound effects).

Hmm. Well, I'm stumped. But then, I'm not the technical guy. I'm moving this to the "Support" sub-forum to make sure it gets attention.

(Ignore post. The Matrix site had a glitch, so I'm bumping this thread.)

I've had the music stop on me while playing the AI in a long turn waiting for the AI to end the turn. Next turn I'd go and uncheck the music box and then recheck it and the problem would be solved. Might give that a shot. who knows.

Are you able to play the music files directly (by using Windows Media Player, or some such)?  Go into the Music directory and try to play some of the files.  It's possible that you might not have the proper codecs to play the files if you don't have an updated version of Media Player on your system.
