RE: Great things to happen....

Post by Bombur »

For the disappointment of General Yamashita, Singapore "almost" fell...not good. To makes things worse, a small allied unit (encircled, but not eliminates, during the advance on Malaya), moved to the road of Malacca and is blocking the supply transport from Kuala Lumpur, while this is just a minor inconvenient, it will postpone the capture of Singapore

A disturbing feature of this mod seems to be the inability of Zeroes to intercept the old Martins 339. Only two of these planes were shot down after a few days of attacks. Usually the Zeroes can´t even fire at the planes. I wasn´t expecting this. Preliminary tests suggested that bombers were more vulnerable in this mod.

-Japanese commanders are complaining about the conditions of Singapore harbour, as it was approved for operations before mine clearing was finished. A second DD was heavily damaged today. Meanwhile a large convoy departed Singapore and is sailing to southwest. The convoy attracted the attention of a few Dutch bombers, which were able to evade from a few Zeroes on CAP and put a bomb in a Japanese AP.
In the Phillipines, another base falls. Now the enemy only controls Manila.

Post by leehunt27@bloomberg.net »

ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE, FEBRUARY 1942

As the IJN sweeps south from Singapore, Allied troops question their commander's decision to abandon most of Burma without a fight. Begrudgingly some troops have retraced their steps to Rangoon, eager to hold on and not lose their colonial privileges and estates.  Chinese troops have evacuated Yenen near Manchukuo, as this irrelevant city can easily be outflanked and captured.  Chinese troops elsewhere dig in, content with what could be a stalemate front for some time.

Farther east, American troops borrow every transport, ship, waterski, waverunner possible to race westward to garrison lightly defended islands against the coming Japanese.  Due to the slowness of the initial Japanese expansion, Wake Island was massively reinforced and held early on.  Seabees are busy building a massive airstrip to punish any central Pacific incursion by the IJN.  In the south Aussie troops succeeded in reinforcing Port Moresby and have some ohter nasty surprises in store for the KB as it veers towards New Guinea.

In terms of the mod, the Dutch B-10 Martin's seem to be relatively strong versus the zeroes, however they are not exactly getting many bombing attempts off.  I think the Zeroes are chasing the Martin's off with light losses on both sides.  However we shall see when the two air forces clash over New Guinea, Burma or the eastern Pacific eventually.  For now the Allies have been content to hold back their air force rather than subject inexperienced pilots to the Zero maneuverability bonus and otehrwise dominant enemy air cover. We'll see when the B-17s are unleashed how things go :)

All that being said, expect a serious clash soon. Again because the IJN moved slowly at first, the Allies have taken bolder steps and decided to take a stand closer to the IJN wave than normal....
