Artlllery out of battle supply

Post by Ironclad »

When I placed two artillery units directly under corps command but not in a division, they arrived with nil supply in every detailed battle despite the corps/army being at a reasonable level of supply. This is the first time that I have noticed this but its probably also the first time that I have done this for artillery so I don't know if its patch related. I can't recall this ever happening for single infantry or cavalry within a corps.

What was the supply setting of the corps?  What were the gun types of the artillery?  What type of supply were you in?

I had that too once; an art'y unit under corps command, low priority supply, no 'raid supplies' event happened before the battle, not foraging. I'm pretty sure the gun type was Napoleon.

It happened during a number of engagements in home and enemy territory in and around northern Tennessee/Kentucky, on low or normal supply (army average was around 5-6 each time but exceptionally dropped to 2 after one battle) via rail or land supply. I can't recall the exact pieces but they were heavier (captured) ones for a CSA army probably both Napoleons (one certainly was).

Hmmm.  I'll look into this.  We did have a bug with supply averaging that was reducing artillery attached directly to corps supply levels down to zero back in beta testing, but we fixed the problems we had with it back then.  There may have been a related problem we didn't catch.  I'll see if I can reproduce this.

(It could be related to the fact they were captured pieces...)

Thanks!

Eric:

Apologies. Faulty recollection I am afraid. I have just checked back and the the problem actually occurred in the ANV, with two captured heavy units - a Blakely and Whitworth. Most of the battles were therefore in home territory (Fredericksburg or Shenandoah) and army supply level was probably 6 or higher.

Edit: I have just had another battle in Fredericksburg where a reinforcing corps included a lone artillery unit (Napoleon) but that was properly supplied ie same as the artillery/other units in the two divisions attached to the corps. I don't think that it was a captured one but can't be certain.

I have had this problem with the supply of Artillery attached at the army or corps level so ended up assigning them to divisions with 3-4 brigades of infantry to get the supply averaging. Is supply averaging supposed to be taking place all across the army? If so I dont believe its working correctly.

Its beginning to look like the two examples that prompted this thread (a Blakely and Whitworth) are exceptions. Other captured units similarly situated have not been affected so perhaps its linked to their supply upkeep cost. Apart from this I had assumed that supply averaging was woking alright but I will check it out again.

Do you remember what the supply priority setting for the army was?  Whitworth and Blakely use a lot of supply, the Whitworth especially, if I remember correctly.

Mainly on low supply, although one of the battles may have occurred on nil supply. Nothing higher.
