Nope. I have never read one of his books. What's the attraction?

Not much of it anymore, but he used to be good. The "goodboy laddie" reference is from his book Moving Pictures, which features a very faithful and VERY dumb dog named Laddie.

Thanks for the info. Our Laddie can be extremely stupid sometimes. About a year before he retired he jumped off the top of a container. It was horrible to watch him falling and I was sure he was going to die. He just landed on his chin and his legs and then his neck muscles contracted and he did a complete somersault, got up, shook himself and then wanted to get back to work. I don't think the poor old fella is up to it these days though!

Back in the old days at school there were frequent fights and brawls against goons in the breaks.
Quickly learned that a fast left hook was the best defense - no kicking or girl fighting - just one lighthing punch and one of the buggers would go down.

One day someone scribbled 'Blitz' on the wall and I learned that this was my new nick [8|]
When I started playing wargames I used much of the same tactics with Panzers....and PzB was born around 12 years ago.
Quite incidental really and at that time I didn't know this was the name of a German AT rifle and a late war experimental air to air? missile.

Had to laugh when my wife (that has never heard about PzB) told me (just a few days ago actually) that I reminded her of a tank when we first started dating [:D]

The AT rifle had the same shortname as my nick, but not fullname.
Later I found that an air missile used in late war was called 'panzerblitz' by FW-190 A8 fighter bombers - also against tanks of course!-)

"In December 1944, the highly efficient missile Panzerblitz 1 (Pb 1) system was introduced consisting of six and, more often, eight R4M air-to-air missiles. They were adapted for tank destroying by mounting an 80 mm M8 type warhead for an armor penetration of up to 90 mm.
Using the Pb 1 unit it was possible to destroy tanks at a 200 m distance.

The only limitation was a maximum speed of 490 km/hr, not to be exceeded during missile firing (in a salvo of eight or in pairs). Up to February 1945 the Luftwaffe received 115 Fw 190F-8/Pb 1 planes.

The successor to the Pb 1 unit was the Panzerblitz 2 (Pb 2) unit. The main difference between them was the replacement of the M8 warhead by a hollow-charge warhead able to penetrate up to 180 mm armor. Also developed was the new missile system Panzerblitz 3 (Pb 3) with a 210 mm hollow-charge warhead, but it was not operational by the end of the war. The same situation applied with the AG 140 (Abschussgerat 140) missile system consisting of units with two 210 mm missile launchers different from Pb 3. The AG 140 system was tested on the following three Fw 190F-8 planes designated as prototypes: V78 (W.Nr. 551103), V79 (W.Nr. 583303) and V80 (W.Nr. 586600)."

Most of his books are humorous fantasy (as found in the Sci Fi/Fantasy section of the book store). His early books were poking fun at the Sword and Sandal Fantasy like Conan, then he evolved into poking fun at things in this world (which I think were his best works), his recent books are OK, but lack the wit of his work a few years ago. In Moving Pictures, and malevolent spirit from Holywood escapes and infects a city with a need to make and watch moving pictures, which feed the beast and makes it dangerous.

One of the "stars" in these pictures was a dog named Laddie, who is good looking but dense as a brick. One of the protagonists is anothe dog named Gaspode who is a genetic experiment gone wrong, but he's brilliantly intelligent and can talk. Gaspode can also talk to other animals. About all Laddie ever has to say are things along the lines of "Laddie is a good boy. Good boy Laddie!" Gaspode can't stand him.

Gaspode later appears in some other books, but Laddie was a one off character.

Monter is my high school nickname. Monter in Polish means a man who fixes or is installing something, for example cable TV.

Trismegistos appeared later when I read a book of R.Ramkin, i like the sound of this word. In real history Hermes Trismegistos was one of Greek gods. In Greek it means (i believe so) "three times as great".

Note that in early 90's Polish Navy went a major technological upgrade. Their jack has changed - an arm was covered by armour

Terminus, they may be "irritiating", I sort of agree, but their presence IS a good sympton. The first victims of polluation are these amphibians. As for water, if you see frogs near fountains, running water, you can bet your ar** that this water is very pure, as opposed to polluated sh**.

I'm a nature fan (not an eco geek though), so I pay attention to these "little" details. Now if these little things could shut up their mouths that would be great.
