centarus project dead end

Post by cleaner00 »

Howdy all. This is my first post, I'm new to UFO:Ex but I loved X-COM so here I am..

apart from the constant crashes during missions I think (or thought) I was doing pretty well for my first time though the game. However, I'm into my 3rd game year and haven't had a single researchable item since the 2nd game year.

From the project, I am still missing the following:
engine injector
engines (left/right)
hibernation room
pilot's cabin (left/right)
navigation room

I can't seem to get whatever it is I need to research these items and the game has turned into one combat mission after another with nothing to show for it.

I capture commanders but it no longer gives me the option to "research" them (interrogate) so I'm not sure what else to do. If it matters, I've only ever been able to capture Vipon Cmdrs, all the other ones seem to be immune to stun grenades, so if someone could clue me in on how to capture them I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

keep waiting for Battleships to show up.  It takes along time.

I've removed this annoying waiting period and totally redone the triggers for new ufo's and also new CAF interceptor and transport research in the latest version of my mod found over here: http://www.ufo-scene.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?1576

When you finish your current game, check it out.  With the mod install the game is completely different and you'll wonder how you played without it.

Actually I already have it downloaded, I've been waiting for this game to end before I check it out.

Thanks for the advice. I've been doing battleship missions for a while now. I guess I'll keep at it and hope the stuff I need shows up.

unfortunately I do not have a save game from that long ago.

I have a chart that maps the research tree and though it is kind of windy-twisty, it looks to me like I should have everything I need. For instance, I have advanced workshop and project centarus researched but I do not have the option to research navigation room. I have UFO gravity control researched but do not have the option to research Nightwolf (whatever that is) or UFO gravity accumulator.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but from what I can tell, the game simply is not giving me what I need to research.

I'm nearing the end of the 3rd game year now. If nothing changes soon I'm just going to dump the default game and give your mod a try. I'm actually fairly shocked at the poor condition that this game was released in. It crashes anywhere between 2 and 10 times per combat mission and i have read the forums for suggestions on how to adjust settings (anti-aliasing, etc.) and nothing seems to help.
Does yours, or other mods help at all with combat crashes?

thanks again

Sounds to me like you are still waiting for the Battleship. Go to your UFOpedia and look at the alien ships. If you don't see battleship yet that is your problem. This is a larger ship than the Battlecruiser and usually does not appear until late 2009 to early 2010. Once you complete a mission where one landed you should open up the rest of the research tree.

This appears to indeed be the problem. Scout, Fighter, Cruiser, Battle Cruiser but no Battleship.

I'll just keep on keepin on.

Thank you.

odd that you are having so many crashes, mine has been stable since day one (had some mod related crashes later on, but we found and fixed those as soon as they showed up)

depends on the crash.  My mod fixes terror mission crashes related to civilians that is in the un-modded game.  If you are having other types of crashes I dunno.  I may have fixed one here or there or I may not have.  I am going to assume you have applied the official patch and possibly the beta sound patch which fixes a combat crash bug.

Also...you told me you have been doing battleship missions already.  Maybe you meant battlecruiser.

I did mean battleship, sorry about the confusion.
I have applied the official patch but not the beta sound patch. I'll look that, thank you.

My combat mission crashes happen at predictable times, any time i first use (but not subsequent times in a given mission) any kind of grenade for instance. So if in a given mission i throw a stasis and a stun and a nerve grenade i will crash three times. Also switching to the next soldier after saving crashes me regularly and since my games crash I save frequently, thus, more crashes.

next time it crashes, post the contents of the crash log which can be found in your UFOET folder
